Govt. silent probing opposition’s | AGARTALA, August 12 (TIWN): Despite a serious misappropriation of money and massive irregularities at Agartala Government Medical College and Agartala GB Pant Hospital unearthed by the opposition in the recent past the state Left front government sees no odd in it. The government has so far failed to probe the allegation rose against the AGMC through its internal audit report, though Health Minister Badal Chowdhury confirmed that the health directorate had formed a committee to review the audit report. PCC President and Opposition Leader Sudip Roy Barman on July 22 unearthing the multi-crore scam alleged that the preliminary internal audit report on the accounts of the Medical Superintendent at AGMC and GBP Hospital have found serious misappropriation of money for the period from April 1, 2010 to November 30, 2014. Consumer blocked National Highway, Prote | AGARTALA, August 12 (TIWN): Irritated by prolonged LPG crisis and unscheduled delivery, consumer of Ashirbadh Agency on Wednesday blocked the National Highway at Dhaleshwar raising protest against the acute crisis of LPG cylinder.Fed-up with the crisis of LPG cylinder issue and not getting cylinder from the month of June, the consumers on Wednesday staged protest from morning 8 am. The protest continued for around 3 hours throwing traffic out of gear in large parts of National Highway. The protestor demanded to change the owner of the agency. They further alleged that the staffs of the agency ask the consumers to buy cylinders from black market which will cost around Rs. 1300 or more. They consumers alleged that as the staff of the agency is getting some commission from the black market as for which they are asking to take LPG cylinder from the black market. The consumers further said that the Government has been repeatedly claiming that every house will get 12 LPG cylinders in a year but the present scenario is different. Sponsoring of nursing students: Manik S | AGARTALA, August 12 (TIWN):In the wake of surfacing alleged scam regarding sponsoring students for various nursing courses at unrecognized institutes, the state government today said it would look into the allegation and take stern action against those found involved. The issue was raised in the Legislative Assembly by opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman who expressed concern about the functioning of two ministers of Manik Sarkar’s government and demanded a tough action against the higher ups who are involved in the irregularity.Drawing the attention of state Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said no institution involved in irregularities should be spared and a strong action must be taken by the government to ensure that no more students are cheated in future. MLA Gopal Chandra Roy in the 3rd day Tripura monsoon session of assembly on Tuesday stated the traffic department has fined an amount an Rs 30, 12, 215 after they pulled off the bike riders for not wearing helmets, and not being able to show the proper documents and for violating the traffic rules. In allegation of not wearing helmets, not carrying the driving license, disobeying the traffic rules, the traffic department has fined an amount of Rs 30, 12, 215 from 12,830 bike riders between January1, 2015 to 15 April 2015 and has submitted the money in the govt. exchequer. Accordingly, the traffic police collected the money through challans in the mentioned given period. Tripura connected to 772.5 MW of power, | AGARTALA, August 11 (TIWN): Despite the northeastern states of Tripura is being connected with several power projects of the state and the plants from other northeastern states the power situation has grimed in the state followed by daily load shedding and people has got no respite from it yet today even after the introduction of state’s biggest power plant Palatana installed at Tripura Gomati District. Currently Tripura is getting a total of 772.5 Mega Watt (MW) of power from its several power plants being installed in the state, the assembly was informed recently. Power Minister Manik Dey replying to the question moved by the opposition MLA in the house informed that at present the state is getting 560 MW of power from Palatana OTPC Power plant whereas on an average of 30 to 42 MW of power from Baramura thermal power plant. The Monarchak power plant under Sonamura Sub-Division has not yet started commercial generation power from its plant, he said. Northeast sees 40 percent more foreign t | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Aug 11 (TIWN) Despite deterrents such as poor connectivity and lack of decent hotels, foreign tourist flows to northeastern states jumped nearly 40 percent in 2014 over the previous year, even as efforts are on to promote the sector there, parliament was informed on Monday.In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma said the number of foreign tourist arrivals in the eight northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura in 2014 was 118,552 compared to 84,820 in 2013 -- marking a 39.76 percent increase. In 2012, the figure was 66,302."Some of the factors responsible for poor tourist inflow to the destination are lack of connectivity, non-availability of reasonably priced hotel accommodation, absence of tourism infrastructure and carrying capacity of the destination."He said the government has included the northeast in two new tourism schemes that have been launched.Apart from the Northeast Circuit under the 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme, two other circuits under the scheme - Buddhist Circuit and Himalayan Circuit - can be linked to the region.According to the minister, Kamakhya in Guwahati has been identified under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (Prasad) scheme.In 2014-15, the ministry allocated Rs.144.68 crore (Rs.1.44 billion) from its Rs.1,100-crore budget in 2014-15 or 13.15 percent of the total budget. Fire breaks out at Udaipur petroleum pum | UDAIPUR, August 10(TIWN): The people of Udaipur narrowly escaped death when fire broke out at a petrol pump.Tension prevailed for some hours in Udaipur town of Gomati district on Monday afternoon when fire broke out at Kiran Petrol pump situated opposite to Udaipur UBI bank triggering panic among the people of the area at the petrol pump. Three people identified as Samir Das, Papiya Debnath and Bishal Das sustained severe injuries while some damage has been caused due to the fire that broke out in the car inside the petrol pump. However, the fire altogether gutted two bikes on the spot and a car in the petrol pump spreading horror among the people of the area. The car from which the fire sparked off was immediately rushed near a lake to spread the explosion at the petrol pump. According to the eyewitnesses, the newly wedded couple who were moving to their house from Belonia to Gandacheera entered to the petrol pump for refilling petrol and the fire spread in the petrol pump from the flame of the earthen lamp in the car. The eye witness also said that the fire broke out due to the oil leakage from the car. Getting alarm about the fire incident huge police force of RK Pur police station along with 3 fire service crew reached the spot and after several attempts brought the fire under control. Bangladesh Internet bandwidth export to | AGARTALA, August 10 (TIWN): Bangladesh will begin exporting bandwidth -- 10 gigabits per second - to India's northeastern state of Tripura within the first week of September, officials in Dhaka told "Daily Star".Bandwidth prices will also come down in the local market with effect from September 1, as decided by Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company at a meeting on Saturday.For bandwidth export, the Submarine Cable Company has already established necessary connectivity up to the international border in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, officials of the company said at a press conference in Dhaka on Sunday. However, the Indian side is yet to build necessary infrastructure, which is delaying the export, said Monwar Hossain, managing director of Submarine Cable Company.
