Gas cut shuts down Monarchak power plant | AGARTALA, August 4 (TIWN): Powered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) Tripura asset the North East Tripura's 100 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant in West Tripura district, about 50 km from here; has undergone complete shutdown yet again due to the gas cut, said official source. “We had to shut down the plant again as ONGC had failed to supply required gas for the plant causing a heavy damage to the plant,†he said. ONGC was supposed to resume its gas supply on July 26 but failed to do so as the ONGC could not discover the possibility of gas from its well. The official said, “Also the ONGC authority failed to ensure the gas supply in future and had not brought any commitment so far.†At present the Monarchak power plant is suffering from a hefty loss as the plant has undergone complete shutdown. | 04-Aug-2015 |
12 new railway lines being constructed i | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Aug 4 (TIWN/IANS): Work on 12 new railway lines with a total length of 1,248 km is being taken up in the northeast, an official statement said on Tuesday."Against a national average of 20 km per 1,000 sq km railway network density, the northeastern states have an average railway network density of 10.1 km per 1,000 sq km," Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday. "Twelve new line works have been taken up in northeastern region having a total length of 1,248 km at a total cost of Rs. 38,416 crore (Rs.384 billion)," he said.According to the minister, Rs.2,279 crore was allocated in 2012-13, Rs.3,392 crore in 2013-14 and Rs.5,200 crore in 2014-15 for new lines, gauge conversion and doubling the existing lines in the region."An increased outlay of Rs.5,338 crore has been provided in 2015-16 for speedier execution of projects in the northeastern region," Sinha said. | 04-Aug-2015 |

HC directs 2 separate Doctors’ bo | AGARTALA, August 4 (TIWN): Tripura High Court on Monday directed the All Tripura Government Doctors’ Association and Indian Medical Association to withdraw the petition filed separately with the court over the private practise issue. The HC earlier directed the doctors’ body that until the state government issued a notification to continue the private practises in condition, the court’s order would be applied. Flyover construction work on track, pill | AGARTALA, August 3 (TIWN): Construction of underground foundation of pillar is completed for at least two pillars at Battala and frame structure for 1 pillar is already set up with the help of steel bars and cement concrete. The universities' list comprises Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University, University of Guwahati, Dibrugarh University, Tezpur University (Assam), Sikkim Manipal University (Sikkim), Tripura University (Tripura) and Indra Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (Arunachal Pradesh). 50 road mishaps a month in Tripura (2015 | AGARTALA, AUGUST 3 (TIWN): The number of road accidents is scaling new heights in Tripura. Statistics stated by union Home Ministry’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 716 accident cases were reported in Tripura in 2014 and of which 188 were dead. In 2014, the north-eastern states recorded 9,885 traffic accident cases. Out of these, 7,825 cases were in Assam alone. Meghalaya 301 cases, Mizoram (95), Manipur (735), Nagaland (39), Arunachal Pradesh (112) and Sikkim (62) cases were reported. In the year 2013, Tripura registered 226 accidental deaths, NCRB stated. During the years (2009-10 and 2010-11) as many as 1748 road accidents took place that killed 453 persons. A total of 2573 persons were injured in the same period. Poor condition hits Agartala-karimganj r | AGARTALA, August 2 (TIWN): Awful condition has hit the Agartala-karimganj railway service. Only one train is there which travels between Agartala to karimganj and Karimganj to Agartala. With the beginning of the Broad-Gauge (BG) conversion work it is expected that the train service from Agartala to karimganj and Karimganj to Agartala will remain suspended from October 1. With only one train running from the two spot has resulted such crisis in the railway service. It is seen that people stands in long queue in front of the station to occupy seats in the train compartment. Starting from aged, young to pregnant ladies all waits for long hours to get inside the train. As there is less number of compartment in train the passenger’s rushes in hurry to occupy seats. Even the children run in hurry in the platform which may lead to accident at any moment. As there is only train from these spot, there is huge rush of passengers.
