City bus service: State govt urges for m | AGARTALA, AUGUST 15 (TIWN): The state government wants more five months to start bus service in the capital Agartala. The request was made in written by the transport department to high court on Monday citing series of problem.It is mentionable here that after getting direction from High Court of Tripura, the state government decided to operate 100 new buses on the streets of the city and out skirts of the city within few days. Among the buses 10 are air- conditioned buses. The buses will be operated at Agartala and adjacent routs of the city, added the minister.The Central Government provided 70 buses under JNNURM project according to the demand of the state. However 70 buses are less in comparison to pressure of passenger in the streets of the city and adjacent areas. So the State Government demanded more 100 buses.Accordingly Centre fulfilled the demand of the state under JNNURM project. Out of 100 buses Tata Motors will supply 73 buses. Besides SML company will supply remaining 27 buses. The buses will have the capacity of being operated by CNG and diesel.The buses will be handed over to private parties to operate those. 248 BSF camps in Tripura fails to curb s | AGARTALA, August 14 (TIWN): Despite minimum distance of 1 KM between each Border Security Force camp (BSF) camps in the Indo-Bangla Tripura border area, intrusion and smuggling of contraband goods is on a rise. At present there are 248 BSF camp in Tripura along the Indo-Bangla border area. The BSF routinely seizes cattle headed for Bangladesh and arrests smugglers in Tripura but that is not making any noticeable dent on the business. The smugglers in Bangladesh resort to innovative ways to take away Indian cows across the border where they are in big demand for their beef and hide. Cooking gas crisis hits Agartala, black | AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): Gas crisis has worsened across the state, forcing the domestic users to hit the streets protesting against the acute shortage of LPG cooking gas cylinders at Banamalipur capital gas agency on Thursday. Consumers in Agartala are severely hit by the shortage of Liquid Petroleum gas (LPG) cooking gas cylinders over past many days. As a result, black marketing is on the rise, with consumers forced to buy cylinders at prices ranging between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 a piece. Long queues of people are seen outside Capital gas agency at Banamalipur from Thursday morning disturbing the swift movement of the traffic in the road. Common men are paying almost more than double to buy a gas cylinder. People have been left with no option but to buy the LPG cylinder from the open market by shelling out more money.These days hundreds of people are seen standing outside the gas agencies to seek a refill and to get their cylinder. Finally Tripura Govt. pitches against ed | AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): Finally the state government sounding against the rampant education business in state had directed the concerned education department to probe the allegation raised by the opposition leader. The higher education minister was recently instructed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations of involvement of top policy makers in admitting undergraduate students of nursing in non-recognized institutes of Bengaluru being shortlisted by the Tripura government. The move has come up just after the issue of the education business had rocked the state monsoon assembly session. Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman alleged that the education business with the state brokers engaged in it has rampant in the state whereas the government have been playing a negligence role towards restricting it. A large number of students are being victimised by those brokers who in exchange of hefty fees let the students admit in some of the non-recognised colleges outside the state which were also shortlisted by the state government. Barman alleged the department has shortlisted 24 such nursing colleges and five other technical colleges in Bengaluru despite bringing the matter to the notice of the chief minister two months ago. IWAI agrees to connect Tripura river wit | AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): Finally after several persuasions by the state Left front government to revive the river lines of Tripura, the central body Inland Water Authority of India (IWAI) had agreed to connect the state’s one of the most important river, River Gomati with the Meghna river of the neighboring Bangladesh to pave the way for river transport to the neighbouring country through the northeastern state. According to the official source the state government had earlier send a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Ministry to get a nod to the water link which is expected to offer an immense potential for water transport among the two countries.The official said that the Inland Waterways Authority of India and the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority would be in charge of river transport after the project was implemented. “The state government which was made the nodal agency for the project would carry out the initiative to make the water level of the River Gomati at par with the River Meghna in Bangladesh,†official said.Tripura government had submitted a detailed project proposal for the development of navigable waterways on the Gomati and Howrah.The project costs were fixed at Rs 12.59 crore for the Gomati and Rs 11.19 crore for the Howrah. | 12-Aug-2015 |

DoNER Ministry sanctions Rs. 9.88 crore | AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) had sanctioned a total of Rs. 9.88 crore fund for the northeastern states and Tripura for the financial year 2014-15, the recently concluded monsoon assembly session was informed. However, for the financial year the ministry had sanctioned a total fund of Rs. 126 crore for the proposed 10 projects in the state which was though not discussed in the assembly session.Replying to the question moved by the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath, the state Minister for planning commission Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that during the financial year 2013-14 the DoNER Ministry had sanctioned Rs. 29.89 crore for 5 centrally sponsored projects in the state.Sarkar also informed that amongst the Rs. 29.89crore the state government has spend only Rs. 8.66 crore and the rest of the fund of Rs. 21.23 crore remained unspent.Besides, amongst the Rs. 9.88 crore sanctioned fund for the financial year 204-15 the state government had spend the entire fund for only 1 project being sanctioned for the state, Sarkar informed the assembly.However, despite the state government had in this financial year 2015-16 got a nod of Rs. 126 crore fund sanctioned by the DoNER for at least 10 centrally sponsored projects the recently concluded assembly was informed that no fund has been sanctioned for Tripura in this FY. | 12-Aug-2015 |
ONGC drilled 199 wells in Tripura | AGARTALA, August 13 (TIWN): When the successful rate of ONGC in drilling gas in India stand at 30 percent, Tripura alone stands at 44 percent, said Industries & Commerce minister Tapan Chakratborty.He further said that so far data revealed till 30 June, ONGC has drilled 199 well in the entire state. Among the 199 wells dug in the state, 164 are exploratory, 35 are development well, 91 well went waste and gas was found from 88 well, added Chakraborty.The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) will be drilling a phenomenal 39 exploratory wells and 23 developments well in the coming 5 years, which includes 0.4 million metric standard cubic meter every day. | 12-Aug-2015 |
