Woman commits suicide alongwith five mon | AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): A 20-year-old woman set herself and her five-month-old baby on fire in Das Para in Jirania under Jirania police station on Friday late night. Chumki Das committed suicide along with her baby who was on her lap, police said, adding, the incident took place on Friday. The victim was a resident of Das Para under Jirania police station. She got married to one AsishDas of Das Para two years back, police said. "The woman, along with her husband Asish Das, was staying in a joint family. It seems some family disputes arose and she decided to end her life," an Investigating Officer told TIWN over phone. All the bodies were sent for autopsy, police added. After getting the information Police personnel from Jirania police station rushed to the spot and arrested the accused husband and produced him before the court on Saturday, said police. Tripura gradually emerges as the unsafe and unprotective place for the women. Every day the number of crime incidents upon women is increasing alarmingly. Data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) also tell that every second day a woman is raped in Tripura (as of 2012) with the figure of202 rape cases in 2012 alone. Though the number has seen a downfall from 258 in 2011 but during the period from2001 to 2012, this number is seventh most worst. Kalpana Das murder case: Delayed forensi | AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): On yet another hurdle on the investigation of Kalpana Das murder case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state govt. has reportedly not yet received the forensic report of the recently recovered two sharp weapons.According to a police source, after the recovery of the weapons those were sent to the laboratory for forensic tests in order to reveal if those were used during the murder of Kalpana Das.The source said, “Police has not yet received the forensic report and this has brought another hurdle to the investigation process.†He said that as of now some more clues has been collected during the interrogation to the 4 accused persons including expelled CPI-M leader Jiten Das.“But Jiten is still dogging the investigators and giving irrelevant statements", a source told to TIWN on Friday. Man found dead in police lock-up in Udai | UDAIPUR / AGARTALA, May 1 (TIWN): A 42-year-old man detained for allegedly harassing PWD official at Udaipur, died under mysterious circumstances in police custody early morning here on Friday. Taking to TIWN on Friday over telephone SP of Gomati district Prabir Majumder said that Noor Islam died at R.K. Pur police station due to heart attack. However, family members of the deceased allege that he was beaten to death by the police. Noor Islam, a resident of Chanban, was arrested on Thursday from PWD office in Udaipur when he was harassing PWD official, said police. However, Noor Islam's family alleged that the police had beaten him to death, and after he died, his body was sent to Tripura Sundari Hospital and his family was not even informed about it. "Around 10 am, we got the information from a relative of our working in the hospital that some policemen had dumped him there," they said.Initially, policemen in the hospital told Norishlam's family that he had died due to heart attack.
