Border put on high alert for ADC poll: 13, 000 security forces deployed, says IGP (Law & Order)

AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Security has been tightened up in Tripura following the general election to TTAADC on May 3. A total of 13, 000 security forces including TSR, local Police, Civil police, 111 companies of Border Security Forces (BSF) and 10 companies of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) has been deployed across the state to maintain law and order situation during the ADC election, said Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Anurag Dyankar on Friday evening at State Secretariat.

“All the security forces were asked to keep a tight vigilance across the state to restrict any untoward incidents during the election,” said IGP Anurag on Friday at the civil secretariat to the newsmen. He said 21 companies of central paramilitary forces has been hired and deployed in the state.

Officer also said, “All the borders here at the state has been sealed from May 1, and the security forces were being asked to restrict movement at the bordering areas.”

“Central Paramilitary Forces were deployed in and around all the strong rooms, while the armed forces were deployed infront of all the polling booths,” Police officer said. He said that a total of 6, 900 TSRs are being deployed.

IGP also said that during the counting days on May 6, the CPMFs along with the local police and TSRs would be deployed around the counting halls.  

However later asked about the status of the insurgency movement across the state, IGP said, “As of now there is no report of insurgency movement across the state, and there is no apprehension reported from anywhere in and around.”

The BSF has strengthened their vigilance and patrolling across the bordering areas of the state. “We have taken all the preventive measures to restrict any untoward incidents during the ADC poll,” officer said. He said that recently the police had held a meeting with the Assam Rifles and the BSF officials in regard of security arrangements to ADC.

Adding to that he also said that there was hardly any violence reported during the election campaign that has ended on May 1 evening.

However later the officer said, “We have made an elaborate arrangements here across the state for the ADC poll this year, and the bordering areas especially has been put on high alert to maintain law and order situation here.”
