AGARTALA, May 1 (TIWN): The 24-hour nation-wide motor strike called by Central trade unions to protest against the provisions of the Centre’s ‘Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015’ evoked mixed response here in capital city Agartala.
Along with the entire nation the trade union had called for a dawn to dusk motor strike here at the state to oppose the provisions of the Centre’s ‘Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015’.
There were fewer vehicles on the road but several schools and government offices remained open on Thursday. According to the police source the situation across the state was normal and no report of any untoward incidents was reported.
The day-long nationwide strike called by the transport sector workers in protest against the Centre's proposed new road transport and safety bill affected more than thousands of commuters here in Tripura as private vehicles continued to ply on roads ferrying local commuters to their destinations.
The operators of buses, trucks, autos and taxis attached to various unions and federations associated with CITU participated in the day-long strike here in protest against the Road Transport and Safety Bill, 2015.
The transport workers on Thursday also organised protest rallies across Tripura to denounce the new transport bill proposed by the central government. Commuters complained that the frequency of the state-run buses were low. Several passengers were stranded in the morning at railway stations and bus terminals.
