Bangladesh Minister arrives in Tripura: | AGARTALA, January 18 (TIWN): To develop the existing 50.78 kilometer long Akhaura Ashuganj road at earliest, a total of Rs. 35 crore will be allocated by the Bangladesh government while Rs. 1565.08 crore will be provided by the Government of India. Speaking to the reporters at Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Akhaura today Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaiqul Quader said that the Government of India is providing Rs. 1565.08 crore and the Bangladesh government will provide Rs. 35 crore to develop the existing 50.78 kilometer long Akhaura Ashuganj road at earliest.Minister for Transport Manik Dey said that Minister Obaiqul Quader expressed a very positive attitude towards our proposal and said Bangladesh had decided to allow other countries to use the ports for mutual interests. ONGC to introduce heavy rigs to improve | AGARTALA, January 18 (TIWN): On another fresh initiative, the central owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) of Tripura to introduce heavy duty rigs across the state to facilitate its well drilling in future. At least two heavy rigs will be hired from an open tender with costs of Rs. 580 crore, and the ONGC Delhi based management has already approved the rigs to arrive here in the state Tripura, said ONGC Asset Manager V P Mahawar today.Talking to TIWN today Mr. Mahawar added that with its new initiative the ONGC has planned to induct heavy duty rigs to facilitate the well drilling for its better future. It is to be mention here that the concerned authorities are in deep slumber regarding the issue.According to the report of the comptroller and auditor general of India, for the state of Tripura the government of India sanctioned 26 projects under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) (estimated cost Rs. 122.69 crore) and 1 project (estimated cost Rs. 195 crore) under North Eastern Council (NEC) during 2008-13. Out of the 26 projects , the project proposals of 23 projects were sent during 2004-05 by the government of Tripura. The approved Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) projects mainly consisted of replacement of existing semi-permanent type bridges with reinforced cement concrete bridges (23) and improvement /widening of roads (3).The performance audit was conducted between May and September 2013 and covered the implementation of ‘Roads and Bridges’ projects under NLCPR and NEC during 2008-09 to 2012-13. | 17-Jan-2015 |

Alignment fixed for Feni bridge construc | AGARTALA, January 16 (TIWN): Tripura Public Work Department (PWD) issued a reminder to the Industry and commerce Department that act as a nodal agency to the state for the proposed four-lane bridge on Feni River in Tripura that would connect the state's South district with Chittagong division in Bangladesh. The alignment and the survey for the construction of the proposed bridge over the River Feni is all set fom the Indian side, said state PWD Engineer in Chief Sunil Bhowmik recently. Talking to the reporters at the civil secretariat recently the PWD Engineer in Chief Sunil Bhowmik said that the Indian side has finished with the survey and the alignment has been fixed for the construction of the proposed four lane bridge over the River Feni at the South District. The construction work of the first ever flyover in Tripura will be taken up from Agartala Dropgate to Fire Brigade Chowmuhni via Battala.Speaking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat the state PWD (Public Work Department) Engineer in Chief Sunil Bhowmik informed that the preliminary work for the construction of the flyover in Tripura is likely to start from this Financial Year (FY) with the pre-bid meeting likely on January 29. It is learnt that Mousumi Bhattacharjee(Chakrabory) of Kishoreganja under Kakraban Police Station was killed by strangulating with a pillow by her husband Sanjay Chakraborty at dead of Wednesday night. Ever since her marriage Mousumi was tortured mentally and physically by her husband San Jay, father-in-law Sunil Chakraborty and mother-in-law Dipa Chakraborty.
