37th Kokborok Day to be celebrated from January 19

AGARTALA, January 17 (TIWN): State is all set to celebrate the 37th Kokborok day from January 18. a two-day long programme is slated to be observed on January 18 and 19 respectively to mark the Kokborok Day. The programme will be inaugurated through a seminar to be held at Dasarath Deb Upajati Sanskriti Bikash Kendra at 9 a.m. on January 18. Besides a quiz competition will be organized during the evening on the very day.

 The main programme will be inaugurated on January 19 at Dasarath Deb Upajati Sanskriti Bikash Kendra. Tripura Rural development Minister Naresh Jamatia will inaugurate the programme at 4:30 PM.

The programme will be inaugurated through a colourful rally on January 19. The rally will be started on at 8 a.m. from the premises of Rabindra Bhavan and parade different streets of the city. Education minister Tapan Chakraborty will inaugurate the rally. MP Jitenda Choudhury will remain present on the occasion as Chief Guest. Executive Member of Education Radhacharan Debbarma will attend as guest of honour. Secretary of Tribal Welfare department L.H. Darlong will attend the programme as special guest.

Besides, a colourful cultural programme and felicitation to eminent writers will be organized on January 19 at Dasarath Deb Upajati Sanskriti Bikash Kendra in presence of R.D. Minister Naresh Jamatia, MP Jitendra Choudhury and CEM of ADC Ranjit Debbarama.

However, the Kokborok is a language of Borok people who are geographically known as Tripuris. It is one of the State Languages of Tripura notified on January 19, 1979. The TTAADC has declared the Kokborok as official language of the TTAADC on April 20, 1999. The Kokborok is now comprising 17 nos Language Code among the 47 Language Code in India according to the 6th All India Educational Survey. There are also 99 no languages having no language code as well.

Besides, Tripura’s Kokborok language is rapidly gaining ground as a medium of indigenous literature, despite the invasion of English as the medium of instruction.
