Agartala, January 18 (TIWN): In order to make the Agartala Railway Station as perfect station, different works including extension of platforms, creation of new platforms and installation of new BG rail tracks have been started few days back, said a railway source over telephone today. As part of Mega block, the BG conversion works are also going on in full swing in Agartala railway station, he said.

Several new platforms will be constructed while a separate zone for goods carrier trains is likely to be set up in Agartala Railway Station shortly, said source. Besides, the station authority has taken initiative to ensure drinking water facility to the passengers by repairing the drinking water taps, which are lying in miserable condition in the station for long time, added source.

Referring the mega-block works, a NFR source said in the second phase of mega-block, the works are scheduled to be started in between Badarpur and Agartala from October 2015 for another six months. After the completion of second phase Mega block works, people of the state would bid adieu to their meter gauge rail lines.

On the other hand, the conversion for meter-gauge line into broad-gauge (Mega block) has been continuing in full swing by the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) at Lumding and Barrack Valley. According to the Railway sources, NFR has deployed more than 3000 workers to complete the conversion work at earliest.

Following the Mega block works, rail passengers, travelling from different parts of Tripura as rail service, the prime conveyance of Tripura people to maintain their day to day service and economic activities have been facing a challenging situation in course of travel.

Though the North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) had decided to run another passenger train in Agartala-Karimganj and Karimganj-Agartala both routes by offering a comfortable and calm journey to the commuters, a single comprising 10 compartments remains in service since October 01, last year till date.
