State government failed to ensure minimum healthcare services even in golden era: Number of referred cases to outside of  Tripura increasing rapidly

AGARTALA, January 17 (TIWN): While the state government is busy with structuring several multi-storey buildings in different government hospitals to amaze the people of the state, even in so called golden era (!), the patients and patient parties are experiencing an elegiac situation to get healthcare services in different hospitals across the state. Though the Health Department is utilizing huge centrally sponsored funds to set up a number of attractive multi-storied buildings, but failed to introduce modern and developed medical facilities to the patients till date.According tohospital sources, due to lack of specialist doctors, insufficient treatment infrastructure and irregular and inadequate visit of doctors at main referral hospital of state- GBP hospital, the total number of refer case to the outside of the state is rapidly upward. A section of patients admitted at GBP hospital have alleged that some of the senior doctors referring patients to outside of state without performing their duty for the lure of commissions.

  On the other hand, the maternity ward in Indira Gandhi Memorial hospital is facing several problems including shortage of bed, lack of care and compassion, business like attitude of hospital staffs, said a pregnant lady. A baby needs best care after delivery but in real, the mother and new born baby undergo treatment on the floor in maternity ward due to shortage of bed where the chances of infection is very high, she added.

Anurag Sarkar, father of a patient admitted at GBP hospital alleged that staffs are not doing enough to ensure that patient is comfortable. He further said inadequate response to requests or complaints by hospital staffs and delays in moving patients to different departments make the patient and patient parties irritate. The patients and patient parties have been facing several problems including shortage of drinking water, unhygienic atmosphere around the GBP hospital, he added. “Most of the staffs and nurses handle the patients with rough action”, said Anurag.

“Almost all the drinking water taps are lying in miserable condition in GBP hospital for long time. But the hospital authority is not taking any initiative to repair the taps. As a result, the relatives of patients are bound to purchase water bottles with high price from outside the GBP hospital”, said a visibly dissatisfied patient party. The non-availability sufficient diagnostic machine is also the part inappropriate healthcare in GBP hospital, she added.
