Pending cases in Tripura High Court likely to be dropped to zero by March-April: Chief Justice

Agartala, January 17 (TIWN): Pending cases has now been reduced to 7 percent within a span of less than two years after formation of the High Court of Tripura, said Chief Justice Deepak Gupta in a felicitation programme here today. Speaking in the programme, he further said, “Pendency of cases is likely to be dropped at zero by March-April in the High Court of Tripura.” The works of the Bar members are extremely good and the junior lawyers are doing best jobs, added Chief Justice. In a programme, the Tripura High Court Bar Association today felicitated to Justice Ruma Paul (Retired) and Justice AK Ganguly (Retired) of the Apex Court at the conference hall of the High Court of Tripura.

Expressing overall satisfaction over the Tripura High Court Bar Association, “The standard of this Bar is beyond compare”, he said. 

In her address, Justice Ruma Paul (Rtd) said this is her first trip in the state she was very keen to visit the state. Besides, she urged the junior lawyers to keep continue the jobs by maintaining the high standard of the High Court of Tripura.

“Law is not a seal book. Laws have different roles to play”, said Justice AK Ganguly (Rtd). The lady lawyers must follow the Justice Ruma Paul (Rtd) as a ‘role model’, he added.

The president and secretary of the Tripura High Court Bar Association presented souvenir to the Justice Ruma Paul (Rtd) and Justice AK Ganguly (Rtd) respectively.

In his welcome address the president of Tripura High Court Bar Association said Justice Ruma Paul (Retd) started practice in 1968 in Civil, Revenue, Labour and Constitutional matters in the Calcutta High Court. After a long and distinguished career as an advocate, she was appointed Judge in the Calcutta High Court on August 6, 1990. She was appointed to Supreme Court of India on January 28, 2000, the day of the Golden Jubilee of the court. Justice Pal has delivered many critical judgements in famous cases. She has written on a number of human rights issues. She is also a member of the International Forum of Women Judges. Besides, she has also edited many text-books for legal studies.

He further said, Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly was the former Chairman of the West Bengal Human Rights Commission and a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who delivered judgements in some high-profile cases like the 2G spectrum case, The Emergency (India).

Justice UB Saha, Justice SC Das, Justice Subhasis Talapatra, members of the Tripura High Court Bar Association and the Bar Council of Tripura and many others attended the felicitation function.
