National Voters Day to be observed in Tripura on January 25

Agartala, January 18 (TIWN): National Voters’ Day will be celebrated in the state on January 25. The day will be celebrated to facilitate the new voters to avail a scope of enrolling as eligible voters in the electoral rolls.

To mark the occasion, the main programme will be held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan where Chief Secretary G.K.Rao will grace the chair of Chief Guest while S.K. Rakesh will be present in the programme.  In the programme, state’s pride Dipa Karmakar will be felicitated and epic will be distributed by the Chief Secretary.

Earlier, the final voter list for the sixty assembly constituencies was published on 5th January 2015. However the total voters included in the list were subjected to be 65thousand158. On the other hand, 19thousand463names were detained from the list. The date for complaining, objection was scheduled to be 20th November.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner, Asutosh Jindal, published the draft electoral roll for sixty constituencies. According to the roll the total number of voter consists of 23lakhs, 84thousand and 125. Among them 12lakhs 14thousandand and 674 are male, 11lakhs 69 thousand and 451 are females.

 As many as nine thousand voters are enlisted as new voters and 4856 are cut off from the voter list. There are 3134vote centres. The ratio becomes 963. On the other hand, state government had approved a proposal of publishing the draft report of socio-economic and caste survey conducted in Tripura since 2011.

In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as National Voters' Day. It started from January 25th 2011 to mark Commission's foundation day.

 In order to effectively deal with this problem, the Election Commission has decided to take up a vigorous exercise to identify all eligible voters attaining the age of 18 years as on January one every year in each of the 8.5 lakh polling stations across the country.
