AGARTALA, August 4 (TIWN): To mark the auspicious occasion of the 68th Independence Day, the authorities of North District has decided to celebrate the day at the premises of the Dharmanagar Birbikram Institute.
The day will be celebrated for continues four days, said an official on Tuesday. The pre-independence programme would begin from August 13.
On the very day, all the education institute, Government offices, Markets, Hospitals including roads will be cleaned as a part of ‘Safai Abhiya’.
However, a youth based table tennis competition will be organized on August 13 and 14. Further, a Mega quiz competition will be organized on the topic Indian Freedom Struggle at Dharmanagar Vivekananda Shraddha Satabarshiki Bhavan on August 13, evening.
During the mega quiz a discussion session will be organized on Women Empowerment and by 6pm in the evening a cultural programme will also be organized.
On August 14, a running competition will be organized from Dharmanagar Town Hall premises.
On August 15, the programme of the Independence Day will be begin through a rally followed by the hosting of National Flags ceremony in all the Government and Non-Government organizations.
At around 8am, the National Flag will be hosted at the courtyard of Dharmanagar Birbikram Institute followed by various other programmes.
Independence Day, observed annually on 15 August, in India celebrating the nation's independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947.
India attained independence following an Independence Movement noted for largely nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience led by the Indian National Congress (INC).
On 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahore Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi.
On each subsequent Independence Day, the prime minister has raised the flag and given a speech.
