AGARTALA, August 4 (TIWN): The state government wants more five months to start bus service in the capital Agartala. The request was made in written by the transport department to high court on Monday citing series of problem.

It is mentionable here that  after getting direction from High Court of Tripura, the state government decided to operate  100 new buses  on the streets of the city and out skirts of the city within few days. Among the buses 10 are air- conditioned buses. The buses will be operated at Agartala and adjacent routs of the city, added the minister.

The Central Government provided 70 buses under JNNURM project according to the demand of the state. However 70 buses are less in comparison to pressure of passenger in the streets of the city and adjacent areas. So the State Government demanded more 100 buses.

Accordingly Centre fulfilled the demand of the state under JNNURM project. Out of 100 buses Tata Motors will supply 73 buses. Besides SML company will supply remaining 27 buses. The buses will have the capacity of being operated by CNG and diesel.

The buses will be handed over to private parties to operate those. It was decided in the last cabinet meeting. Tripura Urban Transport Company will hand over the buses to the selected parties by calling tender from the parties. It is expected that passengers of Agartala and outskirts of the city will be benefited by the service of 100 new buses. The fare of the buses will be less than other private buses.
