AGARTALA, August 3 (TIWN): The select committee of Tripura State Assembly had recently tied a final nod to the state separate university bill restoring the loopholes tracked earlier in the assembly session. The meeting was held on July 31 and had readied the bill which is all set to be placed in monsoon session. The construction work of the university is currently underway at Maharaja Bir Bikram College campus. The meeting was attended by state education minister Tapan Chakroborty, PWD minister Badal Chowdhury, Power minister Manik Dey along with State Assembly Chief Whip Samir Deb Sarkar and opposition MLAs. The meeting has ended giving a final nod to the bill. The proposed university is planned to be named after the erstwhile Tripura ruler Maharaja Birbikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. And the university will be set up centering the existing MBB College.
This proposed university would ease the pressure from the Tripura University and would help boost the quality of higher education in this region.
It would also help students not to migrate from their states for their higher studies and enable them to undergo better studies.
With around 18,000 students enrolling every year in the 22 degree colleges, two medical colleges and 15 other professional and technical colleges, Tripura is certainly marching ahead in the arena of higher studies and could come up as a major player in the country in the years to come.
Earlier Minister Tapan Chakroborty said that there was no conflict between the Tripura Central University and the proposed state university and there would be no problem regarding giving affiliations to the colleges.
The construction work for the university is currently under progress at MBB college campus.
