Mild earthquake hits Northeast, Myanmar | Shillong, Dec 21 (TIWN) An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale Sunday jolted northeastern states and parts of Myanmar Sunday, authorities said.The earthquake occurred at 11.08 a.m. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.According to the regional seismological centre in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, the epicentre lay on the India-Myanmar border in Manipur.The tremor was also felt in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Tripura's northern part.The northeast region is considered the world's sixth most earthquake-prone belt.Tripura is situated in the most vulnerable earthquake prone Zone-V of India. North East India needs an early earthquake warning system and India's Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is considering a similar system for Uttarakhand in the foothills of the Himalayas. Seismologists at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Roorkee are tasked with building a prototype. Tripura has over 2,000 vulnerable buildings as identified by Govt. These include Ujjayanta Palace, abode of former princely rulers of the state in the heart of Agartala town, Raj Bhavan, Neer Mahal, a lake palace built by Tripura’s last king Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in 1933, MBB College and a large number of school buildings. Three killed, four injured in Manipur bl | Imphal, Dec 21 (TIWN / IANS) Three people were killed and four others seriously injured in a powerful blast in Manipur's capital city of Imphal Sunday morning, police said."An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that was planted by the roadside near Khuyathong area, close to Imphal market, exploded killing three labourers and wounded four others," a police official said.He said that the injured have been rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital. Coal like substance reserves in Tailenba | AGARTALA, December 19 (TIWN): The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has undertaken a diverse study after a coal-like substance was found in Tripura. Tripura seems to have struck a new deposit of coal in a major advancement to its recent desires of exploring mineral resources underground.Talking to TIWN today Gandacherra SDM Bhaskar Dasgupta informed that the 4 members central Geological Survey of India (GSI) on their arrival here in Tripura on December 17 took the sample of coal at the regional laboratory centre. He said that the team would send a report of the coal sample within the month of December.A four-member team of GSI conducted wide-ranging studies on Wednesday to confirm the coal reserves in the mountainous areas - Thakukchuracherra village (under Gandacherra sub-division in northern Tripura). SDM Mr. Dasgupta also said that the coal-like substances found so far seemed to be mature coal and it was certain that there were huge coal reserves in the area, bordering Bangladesh.Huge coal reserve is likely to be discovered at Kailasahar. Child labour must be dropped at zero: Go | AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): People should change the poor viewpoint to the children, said Tripura Governor PB Acharya in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Tripura Council for Child Welfare (TCCW) at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, here today. “Child labour and use of children in economic activities must be stoppedâ€, he said. Besides, he urged to ensure hygienic environment for the children by loving and caring them.“While some of childless families cry for a child, at the same time many of the families leave the children on roads. The practice deprives the children of their childhoodâ€, he added. It refers to work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to children, or work whose schedule interferes with their ability to attend regular school, or work that affects in any manner their ability to focus during school or experience a healthy childhood, he added.The Governor further stated that the philosophy of a section of people is going down with the changes in higher education. They should not consider only money as God for them, said he.
