AGARTALA, December 19 (TIWN): Fate of Tripura Govt hangs in balance till High Court announces its order on two PILs filed by opposition parties demanding CBI probe on massive scams in the tune hundred of crores. Tripura CM Manik Sarkar rolled back every word he uttered against Modi near Parliament House dharna on November 26th. Starting from Karat to every CPIM leader including Manik vented their mouthful on Narendra Modi and his government for curtailing MGNREGA funds for Tripura. Now after 5 days on December 1st at Palatana and Agartala, same CM Manik Sarkar bowed down his head front of Modi as his biggest fan, lauded Prime Minister Modi. Not only that, in a rare display of appeasement, Manik invited Modi to lecture Tripura Ministers on Modi’s style of effective governance. Even though CPIM Politburo and other central leaders didn’t approve this kind of behavior with a BJP leader but Manik utilized every opportunity to convey that, not only he is a huge fan of PM Modi but he likes to follow Modi’s dynamic style of governance. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was careful to avoid angering Modi that the most important issue of “MGNREGA funding curtailment†was kept out of 9 point memorandum of demands in a meeting at State Guest House on Dec 1st evening.
This sudden “U” turn and appeasement drama only points to the larger picture of whether CM is scared of CBI investigation into multi crore scams and Modi may nail Manik & CPIM just like Mamata & Trinamul in Bengal.
It is to be mentioned that same CM Manik Sarkar not only repeatedly blasted Modi before and after Lok Sabha Election but Manik Sarkar avoided attending Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on 26 May 2014. Before meeting Modi at DGP conference in Guwahati on Nov 30, Sunday , - on 26th Nov Manik and CPIM arranged a “dharna” – protest against Modi Government for curtailing MGNREGA funds. Manik Sarkar said “
“Tripura is the best performing(?) state in the country as far as implementation of the scheme is concerned. It has provided double the national average of work. However, what the state got as a reward is a reduction in the central allocations. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that this would adversely affect the implementation of the scheme in the state. He said that “the scheme has not only helped generate employment but has also helped develop infrastructure in the rural areas”. “Right from the beginning the vested interests in the rural areas, big landlords, money lenders, big capitalists and corporate houses were opposed to the programme”. Cautioning against changing the material-labour ratio from the current 60:40 to 51:49, he said that this “would lead to an increased proportion of expenditure on material and reduced use of labour, thereby altering the very nature of the scheme”. The decision to curtail MNREGA he said “will adversely affect Tripura which is the best performing state in this regard”. Terming the attack on the scheme as “barbaric” he warned Modi and Central Govt that “this will not be tolerated”.
However Manik Sarkar did not even mention once, why Central Govt curtailed MGNREGA funds for Tripura ? Manik Sarkar’s family friends and closest aides like scamster BDO Bimal Chakraborty are looting multiple crores of MGNREGA funds in every districts in State. MGNREGA and Central funds are lifeline of CPIM party fundings. More MGNREGA and Central scheme funds mean more corruptions, embezzlements to fill party coffers. Otherwise MGNREGA fund curtailment issue could have been easily discussed with Modi at Tripura or it may be discussed with Central Govt at Delhi.
But after 5 days in Tripura on December 1st, Manik Sarkar tried his best even to beat State BJP leaders in showmanship to prove that he is actually the biggest fan of “Modi” and flagbearer of “NaMo” wave.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was careful to avoid angering Modi that the most important issue of “MGNREGA funding curtailment” was kept out of 9 point memorandum of demands in a meeting at State Guest House on Dec 1st evening. Strangely just 5 days back on Nov 26, CM spent lakhs and lakhs of rupees to airlift his 20 MLAs, another 30 party functionaries to Delhi to protest against Modi.
If this is not chameleon kind of skillset and cunning display of double standards, then what it is ?
Manik’s smartness needs appreciation as he learnt early lessons by watching Modi’s actions on Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamul Govt. – Modi’s CBI not only arrested Bengal’s ex-DGP Majumdar, MPs Kunal Ghosh, Srinjoy Bose and Mamata’s close functionaries but tightening dragnet against Mamata’s Govt from all directions. Srinjoy Bose, also the editor of Trinamool mouthpiece "Jaago Bangla", was accused of "blackmail" by Saradha promoter and scam's alleged kingpin Sudipta Sen in a letter that he purportedly wrote to the CBI last year.
Mamata’s disadvantage is she wasn’t smart enough to change colours and declare herself a Modi fan, appease Modi to save herself from CBI’s whipping hands.
Manik’s adavantage is chameleon kind of skillsets, pretending as Modi’s biggest fan, buttering Modi to fullest extent so that Modi never orders a CBI investigation. Hypothetically, even if Tripura High Court orders a CBI investigation as demanded by PILs of Congress and Trinamul – still Manik will be in safe under Modi’s blessings.
