Tripura's 'golden era' under CM Manik : | UDAIPUR/AMARPUR/BELONIA/SABROOM, May 3 (TIWN): Most parts of undivided South Tripura district remains powerless till Tuesday morning since Sunday evening. Even many parts of the Headquarters of Gomati and South Tripura- Udaipur and Belonia- too reels under power cut after cyclone storm hit the state on Sunday evening. The linemen are busy but it seems an up heal task for them to restore electricity supply to most parts of these two districts. But majority of the people living in these two districts remain without electricity . Places like Killa , Bagma, Maharani , Dhwajanagar, Gokulpur, Mirza, Kakraban, Pitra , Maharani of Udaipur , Dalak, Malbasa, Moilak of Amarpur, Chelagang, Nutan Bazar, Ampi, Karbook, MandirGhat, Damboor under Karbook subdivisions are without power. In many parts of ShantirBazar, JolaiBari, Baikhora, Satchand, Hrishyamukh, BirchandraManu, UttarBharatchandra Nagar, Harina, SriNagar of Belonia, ShantirBazar and Sabroom subdivisions power supply was not restored till Monday night. Adding a history to the golden pages of Tripura, the people of Tripura on Monday witnessed the trial run of the BG train for the first time at Dharmanagar railway station from Silchar. Huge enthusiasm and cheers marked the entry of the BG railhead at Dharmanagar railway station. High Courts in Northeast India lack judg | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 2 (TIWN): The working strength of judges in three of the five high courts in the northeastern states was much less than the sanctioned strength, according to the union law ministry.It said the working strength of judges in five high courts of the northeast -- Gauhati, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura -- was 27 against the sanctioned strength of 40.​An official document from the union ministry of law and justice said the working strength of judges at the Gauhati High Court, which has jurisdiction in Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, was 14 against the sanctioned strength of 24.The Meghalaya High Court currently has two judges against the sanctioned strength of four, the working strength at the Sikkim High Court was two against the sanctioned strength of three.At the Tripura (4) and Manipur (5) High Courts, the working strength was equal to the sanctioned strength. "Separate high courts for the states of Tripura,Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram have not been established because the state governments have not yet completed creation of necessary infrastructure in these states," the ministry document said. | 02-May-2016 |

Tripura hit by acute power crisis : Aga | AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Tripura is being hit by acute power shortage causing great sufferings to the common masses even at excessive hit wave . Everyday almost day power cuts occur for more than two or three times and that too during day time . TSECL CMD S K Roy , a few days before , told TIWN over phone that there wont be any problem for power as TSECL would purchase required power from outside to meet the power crisis. It is to be mentioned here that from 23rd April complete shut down is going on OTPC's 726.6MW power plant at Palatana . It is part of Performance Guarantee Test to be done after 10000 hours of continuous operation . And OTPC accordingly informed TSECL and Gov't of Tripura about this shut down . Accordingly TSECL should have been well prepared about it. But speaking to TIWN on Sunday Power Minister Manik Dey declined to have any problem about power shortage . He told this correspondent ," There is no problem with power crisis in the state right now . Power supply is okay ." But when asked the reason about the 10 to12 hr long load-shedding being faced by most parts of the state , Ministers's lame excuse is ," These days work is undergoing on power lines. 2 years after Power Minister’s pr | UDAIPUR, May 2 (TIWN): It was in 2014, August 25 that during the inauguration of the Electrical Sub -Division at Killa RD Block by Tripura State Electrical Corporation, Power Minister Manik Dey promised the mass, “All paras(areas) and habitation of Tripura will be very soon connected by electricity. This is one of the top priority of the Governmentâ€. But after 2 years of his promise Killa along with other interior parts of Tripura, is deprived of electrical connection and loose connections are available across the ADC areas. Moreover on that programme along with Manik Dey, RD Minister Naresh Jamtia was also present who said that very soon Tripura will be free from load shedding. But question arises, what changes could Left Front Govt, bring here in the interior part of the state after that promise? Other than Ministers high Officials like- SK Rakesh ( Principal Secretary Power),Sonal Goel (DM Gomati), Shymal Kumar Ray (CMD TSECL) , Raju Deb( BDO Killa) were also present in the programmme. But after the programme is done, promises are forgotten. Tripura Govt silent on issues with high | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI , May 1 (TIWN): Even though Tripura Govt and its MPs are keeping silent over the issue of abnormal airfares but a parliamentary panel questioned Modi Govt to clamp down the predatory attitude of Airlines robbing passengers. The government cannot abdicate its responsibility towards citizens by doing nothing on predatory airfares and rules must be changed if they are the ones preventing effective curbs on this unhealthy practice, a parliament panel has said. It also asked the civil aviation ministry whose interest it was subserving with such a hands-off approach, to specifically study the rules and regulations that were coming in the way of addressing the issue of predatory airfares, and to spell out the future steps needed to tackle it. "The explanation given by the Ministry of Civil Aviation is purely technical, suggesting they are unable to do anything under existing laws. The committee observes this is amounting to abdicating their basic responsibilities of protecting the citizens of the country," it said. "The committee, therefore, strongly recommends that the Ministry of Civil Aviation should specify the limitations, legal and otherwise, which need to be amended or other measures to be put in place to tackle this problem after consulting all the stakeholders." | 02-May-2016 |

BG passenger train’s next monthâ | AGARTALA, May 1 (TIWN): NFR has decided to run one pair of BG Trail Passenger Special Train between Agartala-Silchar for temporary basis in the newly converted BG section from May 2nd. Railway Ministry under Narendra Modi led BJP Govt working relentlessly to improve infrastructures in Northeast India which has been neglected since India’s independence. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday said he will meet US transport officials next month to finalise areas of cooperation between the two countries in the railway sector. "I had fruitful discussions with the US Secretary of Transport during my last visit to the US and they were keen on engaging with India in the railway modernisation. I hope the next month's meeting in the US will help in taking the partnership forward," Prabhu said. Rs 165 crores project : TSECL yet to com | AGARTALA, May 1 (TIWN): Crossing the deadline, TSECL is yet to finish the work of laying underground power cable which continues to pose threat to the common people. With the deplorable condition of the poles it has becomes necessary to lay underground power cables.The central government has sanctioned Rs 165 crores for Tripura to lay underground electricity cable. Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has taken the work to lay a wide underground network of high and low tension wires through towns with this fund. The funds have been sanctioned for 16 towns of the state, work for Agartala has started. Although it was expected to complete the work by March 2016 but the work shows that it will keep on lingering. Apart from aesthetics, the cables are more secure, tamper proof and have a longer life. The decision was taken to cater to the growing demand and expansion of the city, as it is not easy to erect electric pole in the city. Justice for the murdered Congress MLA Pa | AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): The additional session court, west Tripura on Saturday sharp at 3.30 pm sentenced the 12 persons found guilty into the murder case of former MLA parimal saha to life term imprisonment under section 302/120(b) of IPC. A pall of gloom descended over the family members of all the convicted criminals who were awarded with life term imprisonment due to their involvement in the murder case former MLA Parimal Saha.The 12 victims identified as Shasti Chkraborty, Uttam saha, Mrinal sengupta, Pradul Sengupta, Bijay Kumar das, kajal Roy, Abhoy kanti Bhusan, Chinmoy Ghosh, Hiranmoy ghosh, sukhendu Bikash Das and sajal kumar Sarkar are awarded with life term imprisonment on Saturday. However the other five identified as Arun Kumar Saha, chand Miah, tapan Kumar Das, satya Ranjan Das and Uttam kumar saha were acquitted the previous day.After hearing the sentence, members of the convict’s family broke into tears in the premises of the court.After 33 years of wait, Former Congress MLA Parimal Saha's family gets justice at last as Tripura High Court announced verdict in this long pending case.
