AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Heavy rain falls in the city and its suburbs districts here on Monday brought a sigh of relief from high temperature in the city.

Rain brings a sigh of relief from the scorching summer on Monday morning with moderate shower. High humidity levels made the sweltering heat unbearable for people over past few days. Rain brought sigh of relief for the common people in the state. Though the downpour was accompanied with gusty winds damaging properties, it brought smiles on the face of the common people.

The sudden rain along with wind since Sunday evening brought much relief from the scorching temperature. During last couple of days, heat waves had affected the livelihood of the common people in the state. But after the rain, brought delight to the residents, who were reeling under sweltering heat. The day temperature that was around 36 degree came down after the rain. According to MET Department the sky will remain cloudy and frequent rainfall will also occur.

On the other hand, this rain will solve few amount of water scarcity. It is to be mention that many interior tribal localities in Tripura are facing acute drinking water crisis. People rely on water hand pumps and local streams installed in few villages. Scarcity of water in hilly parts of Tripura, covers almost two-third of total geography of the state is nothing different than rest of the hilly states of the country.

These locations are always prone to the spread of water-borne of diseases and ever year at least two outbreaks of seasonal gastro infections – pre monsoon and post monsoon are reported over the decades. Although the administration has taken steps to contain the intensity of the diseases by introducing mobile health check up vans in vulnerable location and supply of water by tankers; yet safe and good health care facilities are still absent in distant locations of Tripura.
