Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sought public opinion on his official app where a number of questions have been posted vis-a-vis scrapping of old Rs 500/1,000 notes. Over five lakh (half a million) people participated in the survey within 24 hours."I thank people for the historic participation in the survey. Railways waives off service tax for book | AGARTALA, Nov 23 (TIWN): The Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that it would waive off service charges for E-tickets and I-tickets booked through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) in a bid to encourage cashless transactions from November 23 to December 31, officials said. "Now the passengers won't have to pay the service charges on booking E-tickets and I-tickets through IRCTC from November 23 to December 31," railway Spokesperson Anil Kumar Saxena told IANS.He said the decision was taken at a meeting here between the senior officials of the railways and IRCTC to encourage cashless transactions following the government's move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Currently, the railways charge Rs 20 as service tax for booking Sleeper class and Rs 40 as service tax for booking AC class tickets through IRCTC. On November 8, the government spiked Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 bank notes to curb black money and corruption.However, the government also announced that the higher notes will be accepted till November 24 midnight for booking tickets at the railway stations and buying food items in trains and on railway station premises. | 22-Nov-2016 |

Tripura Left front party continue record | AGARTALA, Nov 22 (TIWN): CPI-M's last baston Tripura continue poll victories amidst fractured opposition parties. With the ending of final round counting at Barjala constituency, CPI-M candidate Jhumu Sarkar is ahead of other party candidates with 15,769 votes, BJP occupying the 2nd position with 12,395 votes, Trinamool 5692 and Congress 1063. At Khowai CPI-M candidate Biswajit Dutta got 24,810 votes, Trinamool 8716 votes, BJP 2528 votes and Congress 696 votes. Keeping own life at stake, BSF troops of | DHARMANAGAR / AGARTALA, Nov 22 (TIWN): On 20th November 2016, at about 630 PM, at Abdulapur, ward number 05 under Rangana Bazar area and just 50 meters away from Indo- Bangladesh border , a house belonging to an old lady Mrs Savita Paul turned into a ball of fire due to electricity short circuit. BSF troops of 159 BN BSF on duty at Border seeing this, immediately swung into action and rushed to the spot. It was told by the neighbors that three persons are inside the house. BSF troops, keeping their life at stake, jumped into the burning house to evacuate the occupants. With great difficulty and under extreme difficult situation, the troops managed to evacuate all the three occupants of the house, namely Mrs Savita Paul (75 years), Span Paul (50 years)and Sanjeeta Paul (45 years). BSF troops of 159 BN BSF have shown human face during this grim situation. Three members of the house were given first aide by the BSF medical team which joined in meanwhile and they were evacuated to the Rangana BOP and given shelter, food and medicine.
