Cashless ATMs leading chaos in Tripura : | AGARTALA, Nov 17 (TIWN): Bank-note scarcity has gripped Tripura as public are roaming from one ATM to another for money but all of the ATMs left as empty. At Agartala, all the ATMs will remain ‘closed’ during day time for money deposits, causing huge resentment among the beleaguered public. However, on Wednesday evening, many ATMs started to function after the long dry days with cash flows. But during day times, the scenario remained pathetic as most of Banks were not co-operating with customers. A woman bank-customer before Melarmath SBI ATM said on Wednesday morning that, ‘running from other ATM to this ATM charged me with Rs. 80 but no money in hand yet now’. People were standing hours and hours before ATM at Melarmath but after 2 hours a young man said, ‘Delhi is too far as we are receiving only Rs. 2000/ now; then only you can transact from our ATMs’. However, after SBI-configuration of ATMs with news notes only at Melarmath branch, the money transaction began with Rs 2000 notes.But the most interesting matter is that evenafter much pains, public are confident about Modi’s strong decision. Will Mamata's intimacy with CPI-M destr | AGARTALA, Nov 16 (TIWN): In a quite unexpected call West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, known to be hardliner against CPI-M, invited CPI-M to join hands with her in her battle against the Modi gov't regarding demonetisation of ₹500 and ₹1000 currency notes. Mamata initially invited the West Bengal leadership but the Bengal line immediately refused her appeal. Being refused by them Mamata called CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury over phone and accordingly in a recent meeting held in the house of Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay and CPI-M , CPI leaders were seen sitting side by side . This news has indeed saddened the hearts of thousands of anti-CPI-M supporters , who recently joined TMC leaving Congress for the alleged secret alliance between CPI-M and Congress. Earthquake rocks Northeastern States on | AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN) A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, rocked the northeastern states on Tuesday, an official said. There were no reports of any casualties or damage. The tremor was felt at 7.40 a.m. with an epicentre located in Assam's Karimganj district bordering Bangladesh, an official of the Regional Seismological Centre here said. The seven northeastern states -- Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur - are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world. It's worthy to mention here that calling upon the world community to work unitedly towards disaster risk reduction, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said India is ready to work with other countries to build disaster-resilient infrastructure. Inaugurating a three-day "Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction 2016" here, Modi said India is even ready to share its space technology and resources with any country to deal with disasters across the globe. "We need to think big and innovatively," he said while talking about the effect of disasters on economic growth. "Encourage women in disaster management programmes. Centre to provide supplementary funds fo | AGARTALA, Nov 15 (TIWN): Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday instructed the North Eastern Council (NEC) officials to focus on Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) to connect the eight northeastern states digitally. The Union minister asked the council, which is the regional planning body, to focus on tourism activities besides infrastructural development. "OFC connectivity should reach Panchayat level so that Direct Benefit Transfer to the common public will be a reality," he said.Meghwal assured the council that the government will provide more funds to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and NEC by requesting supplementary funds in the upcoming winter session of Parliament. He said that the NEC was proposing around Rs 2,000 crore for the next budget. "I am assuring you that the NEC will get proper budget as per the demand," he said.On the other hand Tripura CM Manik Sarkar has demanded fund allocation to all the northeastern states in a ratio of 90:10 for implementation of the smart city mission in the region and also more funds for NE development. | 15-Nov-2016 |

Tripura Govt silent on paralyzed ATM ser | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Nov 14 (TIWN): Amid unending queues of cash-starved citizens at banks, the government announced an increase in withdrawal limits at banks and ATMs. Whereas Tripura Govt is not at all cooperating with customers by pressuring the banks to launch ATM services soon, the Centre also urged the states to "facilitate the opening of new bank accounts" and last-mile distribution of small denomination notes as it announced that the new Rs 500 note had been issued. The daily withdrawal from ATMs has now been hiked to Rs 2,500 from Rs 2,000 and from bank counters to Rs 4,500 from Rs 4,000, the Finance Ministry said. The limit of Rs 10,000 per day withdrawal has been removed, the ministry said in statement here. | 14-Nov-2016 |

Since the day of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 were withdrawn, the public are facing hardtimes due to the bankers’ attitudes. However, due to high cooperation of few bank-managers some of the banks had really functioned well, but 90 % banks, especially private banks betrayed the public with lot of arrogance. People are facing hardtimes when they are going to exchange money at those banks, adding pains of non-working condition of ATMs. For example the Purbasha Branch of UCO Bank’s ATM, which maximum times of the year remains non-functional, presently also is in same condition.
