Keeping own life at stake, BSF troops of 159 battalion saved precious lives of three persons engulfed in fire

DHARMANAGAR / AGARTALA, Nov 22 (TIWN): On 20th November 2016, at about 630 PM, at Abdulapur, ward number 05 under Rangana Bazar area and just 50 meters away from Indo- Bangladesh border , a house belonging to an old lady Mrs Savita Paul turned into a ball of fire due to electricity short circuit. BSF troops of 159 BN BSF on duty at Border seeing this, immediately swung into action and rushed to the spot. It was told by the neighbors that three persons are inside the house. BSF troops, keeping their life at stake, jumped into the burning house to evacuate the occupants. With great difficulty and under extreme difficult situation, the troops managed to evacuate all the three occupants of the house, namely Mrs Savita Paul (75 years), Span Paul (50 years)and Sanjeeta Paul (45 years). BSF troops of 159 BN BSF have shown human face during this grim situation. Three members of the house were given first aide by the BSF medical team which joined in meanwhile and they were evacuated to the Rangana BOP and given shelter, food and medicine. The entire rescue operation was supervised personally by Sh L S Dahiya Commandant 159 BN BSF.

The intensity and volume of fire was so high that within 20 minutes the entire house made of wood and bamboos got completely burnt and reduced to rubbles. 

Despite best of efforts, BSF troops could save the lives of the occupants of all three family members but could not retrieve the other articles and household items kept inside the house. Everything including livestock I.e. two goats and poultry and all house hold items completely charred due to fire.

Action of BSF troops not only saved the precious lives of three occupants of the house but also prevented adjoining houses from catching fire, otherwise, it would have caused catastrophe and many lives would have been lost. During this rescue operation, three BSF troops sustained minor injury but they are reported to be safe now.

The rescue operation does not end here, next day i.e. on 21st November 2016,   159 BN BSF  troops company comprising more than 100 troops again got pressed into service and start rebuilding the house as the owner is 75 years old lady with mentally challenged son and daughter and no earning member and source of income. 

The BSF troops are still on the job to rehabilitate the destitute family. BSF has told that within 24 hours the family will be rehabilitated with house made of available resources and basic amenities. This has instilled a sense of confidence of highest level in border population. The border population is praising the action of BSF and singing BSF song with slogan long live BSF, BSF Jindabad and Bharat Mata ki Jai. 

BSF is taking care of border population like a guardian and has  earned  the reputation as real “ Watan ke Rakhwale”.  With this, every young man in the town is willing to join BSF and preparing for it. BSF is also helping young generation in imparting skill development training module and also preparing them for entrance test for joining Border security Force.

159 BN BSF is not only the First line of Defence but also the friend of border population. Everyone in the town is praising the BSF performance. 159 BN BSF  continue to undertake many initiatives like Medical camps, Swchchh Bharat Abhiyan  and many civic action programs to uplift the life standard of border population.
