Tripura to benefit from SC directive to | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, March 16 (TIWN): The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to tell it if the scheduled private airlines were strictly adhering to policy of operating 10 percent of their flights in the northeastern region, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.Asking the DGCA to file an affidavit stating if the 10 percent of the total flights of scheduled private airlines were operating in these regions and other places, a bench of Chief Justice T.S.Thakur and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit also sought information on the monitoring of the implementation of this policy. The bench which had in the last hearing of the matter asked the government why private airlines were being allowed to operate on lucrative routes and allowing them to escape from flying on less profitable destinations, on Tuesday said: "There has to be a uniform policy requiring these (scheduled private airlines) airlines to fly to uneconomical routes." | 15-Mar-2016 |

In all probability, the BG passenger train will be a gift from Modi Govt to the people of landlocked Tripura ahead of the Bengali New Year. Agartala BG passenger service may kick off at any moment as it is just waiting for green signal from CRS inspection. As the deadline coming closure, the progress in the work of the BG conversion is undergoing in full swing. According to the report, the journey towards Udaipur had started at around 1 pm. It is expected that within few months the people of Udaipur are going to enjoy the train service in full wave. However, on the occasion of the first broad gauge engine heading towards Udaipur huge interest has been observed among the people and sources said that people of Udaipur were eagerly waiting for the train to arrive there, as the people of Udaipur can take the passenger train service to reach Agartala. However, for the regular train service in the state, CRS inspection is necessary, as safety is the top most priority. Massive fire breaks out in Government em | AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, Government employee’s housing complex located at Kunjaban Housing Complex burnt into ashes after massive fire broke out on Tuesday morning. Getting alarm about the incident, altogether two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot. After hours of tussle at the spot, fire brigade with the help of two tenders brought the fire under control. According to the sources report, it is suspected that the fire broke out due to short circuit in the quarter. Sources mentioned that with fire sparked from the short circuit, property worth lakhs estimated has been destroyed in the fire incident. Efforts were on for more than one hour to douse the flames at the Government employee’s housing complex. Cabinet resolves to increase 5 % DA for | AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN): State Government on Tuesday announced additional five percent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees. The much awaited DA has been finally released after a long meeting of the state cabinet held at the civil secretariat on Tuesday. It is to be mentioned here that despite of 5 % increase in DA, the State Government employees and pensioners are at loss, as the difference between the Central and State Government employees exists by 40 %. The cabinet on Tuesday decided to make the additional Dearness Allowance effective from January 2016. State government employees and pensioners had long been demanding to the State Government for increase in their DA so that it could be equal to that of central government employees. Bar Trinamool candidates from polls: Opp | KOLKATA / AGARTALA, March 15 (TIWN / IANS): The BJP, CPI-M and Congress on Monday urged the Election Commission to cancel the candidature of Trinamool Congress leaders in the upcoming assembly polls in West Bengal in the wake of a sting operation that claimed several ruling party leaders accepted bribes. BJP leader Ashim Sarkar said the Trinamool's entire candidature should be cancelled. "The video has revealed the party's real face," he told the media after an all-party meeting with the full bench of the Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi. The full bench met nine political parties on a one-to-one basis on Monday evening. Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Rabin Deb said the party submitted the video of the reported sting operation to the chief election commissioner. "Some of the leaders shown in the video accepting bribes are contesting in the assembly polls.
