AGARTALA, March 14 (TIWN): The 4 day long 9th ONGC Maitri baton of Agartala marathon organized by Tripura player’s welfare association has left for Bangladesh of Monday.
A representative team has already left for Bangladesh from Akhaura check post on Monday morning at 10.30AM.
As a part of receiving the baton a program is also scheduled to be organised at Bangladesh press club on March 15.
However, Sports Minister Shaheed chowdhury is also invited to attend the program. Reportedly, on March16 the maître baton will come to Habihanj and a reception program is also organised at Habiganj.
It is to be mentioned here that The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) had also organised this marathon last year as 8th Marathon race 2015 under the initiative of Tripura Players Welfare Association. The race kicked off from Agartala old Central jail ground and covered a distance of 21 km for the male contestants while 8 km for the female contestants.
Excelled with a haul of five gold medals for Tripura, the artistic gymnast Deepa Karmakar has inaugurated the marathon race today being a bran ambassador of it. Minister for Sports Sahid Choudhuri and ONGC Asset Manager V. K. Mahawar also remained present and participated in the marathon race.
However later prizes were distributed among the rank holders from the participants categorizing the two groups – male and female.
Reportedly as a party of the ONGC 9th Marathon baton, the founder of the marathon in Dr.Brandabban Bihri Kathiaba, Tripura’s first Arjuna awarded winner Mantu Debnath, TFA President Subrata Debbarma and others remain present.
