Moderate intensity earthquake hits Tripu | AGARTALA, Jan 4 (TIWN): Tripura awakened up with a moderate intensity earthquake at 4.37am on Monday early morning. An earthquake of moderate intensity rocked India's northeastern states and adjoining Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan on Monday morning , officials said.There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property."The quake, measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 4.37 a.m and had its epicentre in Manipur's Tamenglong district bordering," said an official of the regional seismological centre here in Meghalaya.The earthquake was felt in parts of Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura . Mega block conversion work speeds up to | AGARTALA, Jan 3 (TIWN): With the aim to complete the BG conversion work in the given deadline, the workers are engaged in the last hour of the conversion work at Agartala Railway station. Tripura would create a history on January 13, when the BG engine will touch the soil of the Agartala Railway station for the first time. Chief Engineer (Construction), NFR Harpal Singh in a meeting said that the NFR is all set to run the BG engine in the newly converted BG track up to Agartala Railway station. The conversion work is underway in full swing and there are no hurdles in the way to obstruct the run of the BG engine in the track on January 13. The NFR has decided to run the BG engine of the Badarpur-Agartala track in two phases because there were some problems in the tracks. However, the work has gained momentum and the track laying work is almost completed the trial run of the engine will be done on January 13. However the rolling of the engine will be completed once it touches the soil of Agartala. Keeping in mind the roll of the engine upto Agartala by the mid of January the workers are engaged in completing the work of laying tracks and the other essential works at the Agartala railway station. After the successful run of the engine upto Agartala, NFR is scheduled to run the ballast train. Airport expansion may take a lift in Feb | AGARTALA, Jan 3 (TIWN): The much awaited project of Airport expansion work may take a lift in the middle of February this year. After the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has given clearance to the plan of setting up new terminal building at Agartala Airport, Airport Director further claimed that the work might gain progress by the mid of February. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Sunday Airport director said that at present the work is nearly stopped and it may gain progress by the middle of February. He also said that arranging tender for engaging Project Management Consultants to carry out the Rs. 338 crore projects in underway and if everything moves on accordingly the work might begin from February. He also stressed on the issue that until the tender is clarified nothing can be done regarding the construction. It is worthy to be mentioned here that the state government has already handed over required land for facelift work of the Agartala Airport. However, the much awaited expansion project includes extension of runway to successfully accommodate wide bodied aircraft and to improve the passenger’s amenities. Talking to TIWN, DGM (CFA) U.C. Bhowmick said that the optical fibre laying work is already completed and is just waiting for the response from the higher authority regarding the inauguration ceremony of the internet Bandwidth. He further said that although they have not yet received any notice regarding the inauguration but mostly it will be held in the second week of January. The much awaited dream of Tripura to emerge as the third internet gateway after Mumbai and Chennai is not far away as BSNL DGM (CFA) U C Bhowmick said that the formal inauguration of the internet bandwidth is likely to be held in the mid of January 2016. DGM (CFA) U.C. Bhowmick also said that work is complete and all the equipments have reached Agartala and is ready for the inauguration. Once the internet bandwidth is inaugurated, Agartala, Tripura's capital city, would be the third international internet gateway in India after Mumbai and Chennai. The agreement is initially signed for four years and India will gain 10 Gbps (gigabits per second) bandwidth in the first year with a provision for this to go up to 40 Gbps per second in the subsequent years. Government Departments to pay above Rs. | AGARTALA, Jan 2 (TIWN): Despite of stunning figures of power bill remains pending in various government departments and offices, State Government is least bothered to pay the huge amount to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL). Talking to TIWN correspondent, Senior Manager of Revenue Department Falguni Biswas stated that till the month of November, 2015 a total bill of Rs. 60 crore has been figured out by the department. Besides, she mentioned that the Department has forwarded a detail copy of the pending bills to all the Government Department whose electricity bill crosses the limited line Rs. 1 lakh. All the Government Departments whose bill had crossed Rs. 1 lakh, the department has been sent the bill details. Besides, it has been mentioned that accept Public Sector Undertaking companies all the other Departments under State Government were sent the bill details. It is to mentioned here that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had spent crores of rupees for the election campaign but when it comes to clear up the bill of the TSECL no response comes from the Government Departments. Indo-Bangla rail link yet to make any ma | AGARTALA, Jan 1 (TIWN): Although the BG conversion work in Tripura has gained a momentum with the trial of the engine on the Agartala-Badarpur railway track, but no major progress is witnessed in the extension project of the Indo-Bangla rail link so far. Talking to TIWN correspondent on Friday, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik said that centre has sanctioned money for acquiring land and for laying of five km long tracks on the Indian side. However it is to be mentioned here that earlier the state government could not undertake land acquisition process as the centre had not placed funds but even after sanctioning funds of Rs.580 crores, no progress is made in the indo-bangla rail link so far. The Indian government has sanctioned around Rs 1,000 crore for a 15-km India-Bangladesh railway project, the source informed. It is to be mentioned here that the Union Government has recently communicated to Tripura that it had sanctioned Rs 580 crores to lay the rail tracks and acquire required land in Tripura, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik said.On the other hand the external affairs ministry earlier agreed to provide Rs 400 crore to lay the new tracks and to acquire land in Bangladeshi territory. Indian and Bangladeshi governments have decided to start a new rail link to ease surface transport. Kailashahar aerodrome lying dead till d | AGARTALA, Dec 31 (TIWN): Kailashahar aerodrome has now turned into barren land after it was left unused due to lack of government intervention and maintenance. Kailashahar aerodrome, located at Durgapur area under Kailashahar sub-division which was established in the 60th century with small aircraft service, now remains closed for many years due to lack of passengers and especially due to lack of intervention from the government. Way back in 2011, Airport Authority of India had visited the Kailsahar airport with an aim to re-open it, however, after passage of years no upgradation is reported in the airport rather is has become a spot for the cattle’s to graze. The sources also said that the District Magistrate and Collector (DM) Mrinal Kanti Nath have sent a proposal to the state Transport Department in regard of the acquisition of 70 acres of land but so far no initiative has taken by the state government to re-open the airport at Kailashahar . And unfortunately, the state government is also maintaining silence over this issue. If Kailashahar airport is made operational, Unakoti district will have direct connectivity with Kolkata, Guwahati, South Assam and many other parts of the Northeastern region. It will also reduce pressure on Agartala airport.
