AGRTALA, August 2 (TIWN): Alleging discrepancy in the delimitation of the civic bodies’ opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman on Saturday at Congress Bhawan said that the draft publication of the delimitation of the civic bodies was done according to constructive position of the ruling party.
He further said that the draft publication for delimitation was not prepared by the administration and the ruling party has used their powers to prepare the delimitation of civic bodies.
In the process of the delimitation of civic bodies, it was found that the delimitation was done according to the wish of the ruling party and the administration officials has supported the decision with the intention to save their chair, alleged congress leader.
It is to be mention here that Wards in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and eight municipal council out of 13 - have been increased. The number of AMC seats would be increased from 35 to 49 and 18 constituencies was increased for eight municipal councils.
Draft publication for delimitation of civic bodies was issued on Friday. The claims and suggestion on the draft publication would be allowed from August 7 to 12 while final publication would be made public on August 17 next.
Before publication of final delimitation in constituencies, the government would provide a scope for claim and objection. All the District Magistrates (DMs) have been asked to complete the delimitation process by August 17.
According to sources, state’s total urban population stands at 5, 22,613. According to sources, the civic election process would gain ground after Durga puja. The election of urban civic bodies is expected to hold in December.
The Agartala Municipality was constituted in 1871 during the reign of erstwhile king, Maharaja Chandra Manikya (1862-96).The first British Political Agent, A.W.B. Power was appointed for princely ruled Tripura in 1871 and become the chairman of the Agartala Municipality. Tripura merged with the Indian Union on Oct 15, 1949.
