Modi's 'Act-East' policy saves Tripura f | AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): Manik Sarkar led Tripura Govt’s lackluster attitude, poor planning to stock essential commodities resulted severe fuel crisis in State since April this year. Due to Modi Govt’s proactive action after Tripura’s severe crisis reported to Union Rail Ministry, MoRTH&PMO, Central Govt Ministries Petroleum and Natural Gas of India and the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) of Bangladesh had signed MoU in Dhaka 3 weeks back on August 18 which resulted fuel-transport via Bangladesh on Saturday night. Modi Govt envisaged that this short route for Tripura via Bangladesh would save time and costs in carrying petroleum products from Assam to Tripura as the existing over 400 km of mountainous route required more than 10 hours to carry these essential items. As the condition of highways NH-8,NH-44 in Assam, Tripura & Meghalaya are not worthy during monsoon season, so transporting via Bangladesh is a time-saving cost-effective option. This short-term India-Bangladesh deal on shipping of the petroleum products is valid till September 30. Also due to Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s dynamic actions, special trains are carrying oil tankers for Tripura from Aug 12 which resolved fuel crisis. Drug smuggling : Booming business on Ind | AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): Mizoram, Nagaland, Myanmar, Assam, Tripura & Bangladesh corridor is being used by drug cartels to smuggle hundreds of crores heroin, brown sugar, contrabands to rest fo India and International markets. Union Minister of State for Home KirenRijiju this week underlined the need for the creation of joint mechanisms between India and its neighbours to tackle drug trafficking and infiltrations. Rijiju said, Development and security go hand in hand, adding that although India had fenced its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, drug trafficking and illegal crossings were nevertheless occurring. Massive Drug trafficking, hundreds of crores of Heroin, Brown Sugar smuggling across Northeast, Tripura’s border regions funding narco-terrorism which is a serious concern for Union Home Ministry. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said drug trafficking poses a serious threat to global security and called upon the BRICS nations to come together to collectively fight against the menace. BSF 159th Battalion confiscated brown sugar, contrabands worth Rs 1.5 crores from Silchar-Agartala train in Panisagar, North Tripura in July this year. Most of the pharmacy shops engaged in selling contraband items like phensedyl, correx, drugs, and tablets in broad day light without any prescriptions to drug addicts everyday. Tripura becoming NE’s narcotics c | AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): Tripura’s narcotics business fueled by drug-mafias, Islamic fundamentalist groups along Sonamura-Boxnagar region producing tons of marijuana, contrabands. In a shocking development, around 2000 Kilos Ganjas were recovered from Sepahijala Dist this week. As per the Bishalgarh Police station record for last one week on Sep 3875 kgs marijuana was recovered, which was ready for smuggling, then on Sep 7, more 1,125 kilos Ganja recovered from that same Dist. Talking to Bishalgarh police on Saturday they said that continuous raids are being held against Ganja cultivation and production. As a result worth of more than 1 Crores of Ganja was recovered in last one week. Bishalgarh Police, on Sep 7 recovered huge quantity of marijuana hidden in a truck near Gokulnagar rail bridge area of bordering Sepahijala district of Tripura, which worths around Rs. 56.5 lakhs. ONGC, Tripura Govt mismanagement : No ho | AGARTALA, Sep 9 (TIWN): Power Minister Manik Dey led Tripura Power Dept mismanagement, ONGC’s erratic gas supply caused massive haltdown of 101 MW gas based NEEPCO Monarhcak Plant. 2016 Puja season highly likely to experience load-shedding as NEEPCO Plant is shut down due to lack of gas supply by ONGC. 2015 Puja season was different when NEEPCO power supply, OTPC Palatana feeds kept Tripura running 24 hrs. Rural Tripura may suffer from frequent load-sheddings due to NEEPCO shutdown. Due to lack of gas supply from ONGC, 101MW plant is sleeping for more than 3 months, as ONGC told NEEPCO that they will not be able supply gas to Monarchak before December. However, TSECL MD Shyamal K Roy said that before October ONGC can not provide gas. But NEEPCO GM Samir Ranjan Biswas while talking to TIWN said, “ONGC last time mentioned only December-2016 will be the suitable time for ONGC to supply Gas to Monarchak. “No way NEEPCO can start the plant now and during Durga Puja no chance of any action at Monarchak plant, as December supply was finalized by ONGCâ€, GM added. | 09-Sep-2016 |
