AGARTALA, Sep 11 (TIWN): Tripura’s narcotics business fueled by drug-mafias, Islamic fundamentalist groups along Sonamura-Boxnagar region producing tons of marijuana, contrabands. In a shocking development, around 2000 Kilos Ganjas were recovered from Sepahijala Dist this week. As per the Bishalgarh Police station record for last one week on Sep 3875 kgs marijuana was recovered, which was ready for smuggling, then on Sep 7, more 1,125 kilos Ganja recovered from that same Dist. Talking to Bishalgarh police on Saturday they said that continuous raids are being held against Ganja cultivation and production. As a result worth of more than 1 Crores of Ganja was recovered in last one week. Bishalgarh Police, on Sep 7 recovered huge quantity of marijuana hidden in a truck near Gokulnagar rail bridge area of bordering Sepahijala district of Tripura, which worths around Rs. 56.5 lakhs. The car was bearing Nagaland registration number. That incident however again proved the NorthEast narcotics network active in Tripura. Boxnagar, Sonamura areas were known as the den for Ganja business, but now day by day, the whole Sepahijala district has become a paradise for such business.

Talking further to police they mentioned, on Sep 3, Rs. 44 lakh’s Ganja was recovered in a joint operation of BSF and police in the same district.

Thus in 2 day raids the worth stands around 1 crore.

It’s worthy to mention here that the chain marketing of Marijuana, Brown Sugar across NE have remained unchecked in Tripura. Across whole India although it’s banned, but due to govt.’s silent support to the issue, the illegal business is increasing.

Back in 2014, upright TCS Official Subhashish Das had destroyed massive Ganja plantations at Sonamura during his tenure as the SDM Sonamura, but drug-mafia & CPI-M nexus shunted out honest officer.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar appointed corrupt SDM Panna Ahmed (who later was arrested for raping a woman) to help the narcotics business.

Panna Ahmed who is also a relative of Minister Sahid Choudhury started to work in support of marijuana producers. Turning Sonamura into a den for Marijuana cultivators, later Panna took transfer to occupy the position of Deputy Director of Sports & Youth Affairs, under the shelter of Tripura Sports Minister Sahid Choudhury. However, Panna Ahmed was arrested for raping a married woman & presently he is in jail.

With Bishalgarh police, Assam Rifles now the local people are happy.

Apart from Sonamura, North Tripura is also acting as the corridor for smuggling of ganja, and taking North Tripura route, the smugglers are daily entering in state with brown sugars, drugs and exporting ganja, liquors across India-Bangladesh borders. .
