KAMALPUR, Sep 10 (TIWN): The lacklustre attitude of PWD(R&B) tolled high on the people of this sub-division. And the situation became so grave that a broken bridge could not be making operative even in 23 days. Still the political leaders as well as the commoners remained shutting up.

On 19th August last a loaded truck broke the weak Bailey bridge at Rakhaltali in this sub-division and plunged into the stream below. Till then the movement on Kamalpur-Ambassa road ceased due to broken bridge.

The trumpeting officials of PWD(R&B) announced that, the bridge would be replaced with a new and stable bridge soon to continue the movement. Accordingly, a contractor was also given the task.

But, in reality, the condition remained the same even after 23 days. The movement ceased on Kamalpur-Ambassa road. The vehicles had to cover at least 5 kilometres more distance.

And the fair got charged 20 rupees more per passenger for that extra distance. Even in that case neither the CITU nor the administration adopted any measure.

When asked the PWD(R&B) Executive Engineer assured that, the situation would be handled soon and the road would be operative by mitigating the problem of the bridge.

However, it got revealed that, as the contractor had to get huge pending bills and the department could not clear them before the ensuing Puja, hence he would not start the work before Puja.
