101 MW gas based Monarchak power plant l | AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Powered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Tripura's 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant has undergone complete shutdown and is lying completely dead due to the gas cut from ONGC, said official source. Reportedly, after palatana has resumed power generation ONGC has stopped supplying gas to Monarchak. Talking to TIWN correspondent, NEEPCO high official said that the 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plants in Sipahijala district at Sonamura sub-division has stopped power production after gas supply was stopped from ONGC. He further said that there is no problem with the turbines but it can only run if it gets sufficient amount of gas from ONGC. He also said that recently, NEEPCO and ONGC high official held meeting where it is decided that ONGC will be able to supply gas form November and before that it cannot provide the sufficient amount of gas to run the turbines. | 30-May-2016 |

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo will hold a two-day meeting in New Delhi on Sunday to review the outcome of the assembly elections in four states and a union territory. It is to be mentioned here that the meeting would also review the present political situation in the country. Reportedly, the three-day politburo and central committee meetings were earlier to be held on May 22-24 in New Delhi but were postponed. The three-day central committee meeting is scheduled to be held on June 18-20.The 16-member politburo and the 93-member central committee will thoroughly study the party's performance in the five states, specially the electoral disaster in West Bengal. Though the CPI-M leadership in Tripura is upbeat over the party's good showing in Kerala, it is upset over the Left Front's poor performance in West Bengal.Meanwhile, a two-day meeting of CPI-M's Tripura state committee concluded here on Friday. Central Govt. to invest Rs.1 lakh crore | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that the government will invest Rs.one lakh crore in the northeast region to develop road infrastructure in five years. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed him to put special emphasis on infrastructural development in the northeast as the region remained deprived off the progress for years. "In next five years we will build a road network, with investment of Rs.one lakh crore, in the northeast region of the country. This will enable fast and overall development of the entire region," Gadkari said from Nagpur while speaking at "Ek Nayee Subah" event to mark the Modi government's two years. Development works estimated at Rs.40,000 crore have already started in the region, he added.On development of waterways, Gadkari said that water transport is the cheapest way of travelling and with India having a 7500-km-long coastline which connects 78 districts of 13 states, the scope of water transport is immense."We are transforming the rivers -- which fall into the sea -- into waterways. Malaria making its grip stronger in the | AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): On the one hand where Malaria is spreading its web in the state, Health Minister Badal Chowdhury is reluctant to take any major initiative for preventing the spread of malaria among the people.Reportedly, at least six children, aged between 30 months and eight years, have died of suspected malaria in Tripura over the past seven days.The deaths occurred in the tribal hamlets of Gandacherra and Amarpur subdivisions of Dhalai district. Five deaths took place in the Ganganagar area of Gandacherra subdivision and one in Kalajhari village in Amarpur subdivision.The five children who died in Ganganagar are Rasmita Reang (3) of Rebahipara, Mukta Singh Reang (3) of Rebahipara, Railabati Reang (4) of Sidda village, Pritam Ram Reang (6) of Rebahipara, and Karjja Ram Reang (8). Ajita Reang (30 months) died in Kalajhari village on Thursday. Inept administrators and incompetent officials of the Health and Family Welfare department of Tripura is only responsible for the great debacle which was faced by the whole state last year when the Malaria Outbreak did hit the entire state. Agartala no SMART City, Govt mismanageme | AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Till day it has remained as a distance dream to convert Agartala city into a smart city--- as the city has neither any organized building construction, nor it has any proper drainage system. The Urban Development Ministry recently announced 13 winners of the fast-track Smart City competition, with Lucknow topping the list. Announcing the list, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said Lucknow, which could not make it to the first list of 20 mission cities last year, had improved the quality of its Smart City plan. The other cities that made it to the next round are Warangal (Telangana), Shimla, (Himachal Pradesh), Chandigarh, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), New Town Kolkata (West Bengal), Bhagalpur (Bihar), Panaji (Goa), Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), Imphal (Manipur), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Agartala (Tripura) and Faridabad (Haryana).
