AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): On the one hand where Malaria is spreading its web in the state, Health Minister Badal Chowdhury is reluctant to take any major initiative for preventing the spread of malaria among the people.Reportedly, at least six children, aged between 30 months and eight years, have died of suspected malaria in Tripura over the past seven days. The deaths occurred in the tribal hamlets of Gandacherra and Amarpur subdivisions of Dhalai district. Five deaths took place in the Ganganagar area of Gandacherra subdivision and one in Kalajhari village in Amarpur subdivision. The five children who died in Ganganagar are Rasmita Reang (3) of Rebahipara, Mukta Singh Reang (3) of Rebahipara, Railabati Reang (4) of Sidda village, Pritam Ram Reang (6) of Rebahipara, and Karjja Ram Reang (8). Ajita Reang (30 months) died in Kalajhari village on Thursday. Inept administrators and incompetent officials of the Health and Family Welfare department of Tripura is only responsible for the great debacle which was faced by the whole state last year when the Malaria Outbreak did hit the entire state. Tripura is yet again in the grip of Malaria with the report of malaria outbreak at several tribal hamlets of the state.

Though the state govt. claims to have taken certain measures to prevent the situation but situation remains alarming. The state medical team has been conducting a regular health camp at the malaria affected villages but Malaria is still prevailing in the state.

It is to be mentioned here that with the recent outbreak of malaria panic has started to grip the people living in santirbazar and nearby areas. Only a year ago more than many people died across the state due to malaria attack. And again the disease started to raise panic in the areas. The situation became even worse due to as majority of the sufferers prefer to be treated by local priests instead of trained doctors.
