Tripura tightens security ahead of triba | AGARTALA, June 21 (TIWN / IANS) Security has been beefed up in Tripura after a tribal outfit called for rail and road blockade on Wednesday to press its demand for a separate state.The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), which has been agitating for the past few years for creation of a separate state, has called for the rail and road blockade at Baramura hill range in western Tripura."We have made adequate security measures in and around the rail and road blockade sites. Tripura State Rifles and central paramilitary forces would be deployed in the areas," Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Anurag told IANS. "Suitable security measures have been put in place. Senior police officials would supervise the situation and steps would be taken," he added. The IPFT wants the separate state to be carved out of Tripura, by upgrading the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The ruling Left Front is now at the helm of the TTAADC, which was formed by amending the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in 1985.CPI-M central committee member Gautam Das said: "A small state like Tripura cannot be divided further. Two weeks back, Satyendra Garg, Joint Secretary, in-charge of Northeast in Home Ministry visited Kanchanpur refugee camp to take stock of ground situation and pursue two decades old Bru refugee repatriation to Mizoram in presence of Tripura and Mizoram Govt officials. Bru refugees turning violent as they burnt and damaged atleast 26 local’s homes at Kanchanpur on May 15, 2016 causing flare-up of communual riot in Kanchanpur Hilles. Tripura Govt. reportedly after the incident, asked the Central govt. and Mizoram Govt. to take initiatives for Brus repatriation as it causing internal clashes. However, after 20 days of the clash, the MHA Northeast India Division Joint Secretary Satendra Garg held meetings with Tripura and Mizoram Govt officials. Union HRD Ministry to establish Yoga Dep | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 21 (TIWN): Union HRD Minister selected Manipur University in North East for courses on Yogic Sciences.Six Central Universities will have full fledged Yoga departments from academic session 2016-17 and the number would be raised to 20 within one year. These six universities are Hemwati Nandan Bahugana Garhwal University, Uttrakhand (North), Viswa Bharti, West Bengal (East), Central University of Rajasthan (West), Central University of Kerala (South), Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, Madya Pradesh,(Central) and Manipur University (North East). This was stated by Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of Human Resource Development addressing a National Seminar on Yoga on Saturday. Irani said the action is in line with recommendations of a panel headed by Prof H R Nagendra, that had suggested various kind of courses ranging from certificate courses to Bachelor’s, Masters and PhDs for yogic sciences. Union HRD Minister said that in view of significant role of Yoga to develop all faculties of life, the HRD ministry has taken steps to popularize yoga from school to University level. The estimated cost of the project was Rs. 8,27,079.00/- lakhs. CPI-M units urged public to fight agains | AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): As a part of continued protests against divisive politics by terrorist backed IPFT, CPI-M units DYFI, TYF organized massive rally on Monday in an attempt to derail IPFT's strike on June 22. During the protest rally, the party members raised voice against IPFT’s strike in demand of Twipra land and urged people for co-operation with CPI-M to fail the protest of IPFT. Surprisingly, apart from the CPI-M, none of the State opposition parties Congress, TMC, BJP have come forward to protest against IPFT’s June 22 strike. Since June 12, CPI-M voiced its strong oppostion against IPFT’s intention of destabilizing Bengali-Tribal harmony in Tripura. CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar voiced concerns that Twipra Land agitation is dangerous as militant outfits backed IPFT hell bent on anti-Bengali agitations and communual riots. BSF 195Bn seized 118kg of cannabis worth | AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): Acting on a tip off, 195 BSF battalion on Sunday late night raided a rubber garden under BOP Durgabari area at Bhagalpur and seized a total of 118KG of ganja worth Rs5, 90,000. Smuggling on cannabis is rising rampantly in the state with no action from the authority for curtailing the business of ganja cultivation and smuggling. Even when the State is massively hit with the ganja plantation, the authority is reluctant to make any comment over the ganja drive with just one sentence that ‘the drives are going on in the areas. Acting on a tip, 195 BSF bn on Sunday late night raided the rubber garden area and seized the packets of ganja from the spot but could not arrest any smuggler from the spot.The sources further said that 118 Kg of cannabis worth Rs 5, 90,000 was seized by BSF and the matter was however disclosed in front of public on Monday morning. Drug smuggling business inside the State is getting boost day after day due to unholy nexus of Drug Mafias and some corrupt officials of State Police. Tripura’s massive corruption: Sta | AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): NEEPCO’s 101MW gas based Tripura Unit is undergoing commercial losses due to unscheduled shut down and non-payment of massive dues to NEEPCO and OTPC Palatana which resulting power-cuts across State. Tripura Govt.yet to pay longstanding dues of atleast Rs. 180.33 crores to NEEPCO and few more hundred crores to OTPC. Tripura State Electrical Corporation Limited (TSECL) paid only Rs. 5 crore to NEEPCO whereas at least Rs 35 crores more was required to prevent power cuts after March 31,2016. NEEPCO’s mercy gave TSECL additional time, even though TSECL failed to meet cash crunch. NEEPCO GM S R Biswas while talking to TIWN regarding TSECL pending bills, GM said ‘There are issues of over 180 crores unpaid bills, due to which there are some commercial crisis that NEEPCO is facingâ€. The consignment arrived in 4 trucks. However the trucks were received with huge enthusiasm at Akhaura check post. Consignment of 1005 tonnes of steel rods arrived on Sunday in Tripura from West Bengal through Bangladesh as part of revised 'Inland Water Transit and Trade Protocol' between the two countries. It is to be mentioned here that a Bangladeshi ship carrying the consignment of 1,000 MT corrugated iron sheets for Tripura reached Ashuganj river port on Thursday. Reportedly, the consignment for Tripura has started from Kolkata on June 3 last using waterways for Ashuganj port, which is about 32 Kms from Agartala by road. This is the first commercial transit consignment sent for Tripura using Bangladesh. Anbis Development Ltd, a Bangladeshi operator, hired the ship to carry the goods from Kolkata to Ashuganj.
