On Sunday in various Districts, the petrol prices were recorded over Rs. 82 whereas the Diesel is available at Rs. 76 and above. Consumers in various fuel stations have expressed resentments and frustrations over the constant hikes. Addressing media, CPI-M leader Manik Dey has said, “Although fuel prices are not imposed by the Govt directly but it has controls on taxes and other issues. We demand Govt to decrease the hiked taxes. On the one side, due to pandemic, vehicle drivers are unable to take enough passengers and at the same time, hiked fuel prices have made there lives miserable. Where should the people go, who are connected with the transport services ? Food Inspector Subarata Saha on Saturday alone has nabbed a smuggler’s vehicle which was carrying illegal rice items. The Inspector was in off-duty and doing morning walk like everyday, but seeing a rice carrying vehicle, it doubted his eyes and as soon as he went close to it, the auto-driver who are carrying those items rushed from the spot. The Inspector kept running behind it with his scooty and in few places, he was almost to catch him but the auto kept on escaping, but at the end, Subrata Saha caught the vehicle but the smuggler escaped.
