Illegal sales of tortoises at Agartala o | AGARTALA, March 21 (TIWN): Open selling of tortoises were tracked by Forest Dept on Tuesday at Math Chowmuhani. Heavy waited 2 tortoises were recovered from the meat-market at Math Chowmuhani, but not single accused could be nabbed by Forest officials, neither they booked anyone for inquiry in connection with illegal tortoise selling. Source said that the tortoises are coming from Bangladesh passing through Indo-Bangla borders. Getting informed from a secret source, the Forest Dept officials raided at Math Chowmuhani and recovered 2 tortoises of around 20 kilos. Asking the other businessmen present there, they refused to divulge the seller's name and pretended to be unknwon about the fact. The Wildlife Protection Act of India, 1972 states that "The ownership and trading of any animal who's natural habitat is in the wilds within the country boundaries is prohibited by law.†All aquatic animals, wild animals, birds, reptiles, butterflies, moths etc which are found in the wilds of India are protected by this law. Debbarma was brining bundles of allegations against BSF saying that they had killed 3 persons after raping a woman and to save face BSF filed an FIR against tribals accusing them as smugglers. However, earlier the villagers said that the killed woman was molested physically by BSF and NC Debbarma claimed it directly as ‘Rape’. ‘BSF had raped her, it’s proven already’, said Debbarma. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday called for strengthening of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure speedy construction of roads. "The road sector is moving very fast. We have solved the problem of land acquisition. Also, budget and financial arrangements are not a problem anymore. However, we are suffering due to slow decision making, and red-tapism in the banking system," Gadkari said while speaking at the Growth Net summit here. "If we want to convert a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) in to EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction), there is no response (from the government departments concerned. So we will have to strengthen the power of the NHAI, like (involving) Finance Secretary in its board. Our proposal is with the government. The cabinet will take a decision," Gadkari said. Gadkari said his government has decided to increase the network of the national highways from the existing 96,000 km to two lakh km. "By the end of March, we will be able to sanction projects worth Rs 15,000 crore. But I am not satisfied. Tripura government failed to utilise cen | AGARTALA, March 20 (TIWN/IANS): Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Sunday said the Left Front government in Tripura failed to utilise funds released by the central government for developmental projects and to serve the interest of the farmers. "We released Rs 35 lakh in 2016-17 and last fiscal for implementation of 'Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana' for Tripura, but the state government could not spend the money. Rs 3.56 crore was sanctioned for soil testing management scheme but it remains unknown how the money was utilised," Singh said while addressing a gathering of officials and farmers at Lembuchara, near here.The minister, who was here on a two-day visit, said in the last two years his ministry had sanctioned more than Rs one crore for giving soil health cards to over 1.80 farmers in the state, but the state government could use less than 40 per cent of the fund. Singh said while in the last five years the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had allocated Rs 7,646 crore, the incumbent Narendra Modi government sanctioned Rs 23,655 crore in less than three years for many projects and schemes in the state.The minister said Tripura's Left Front government has not submitted any project on 'Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM)' and asked the state to give importance to this mission. | 20-Mar-2017 |

A four member team has arrived in Tripura and reportedly, they will take them to Bengaluru by Saturday itself. With his arrest tension has gripped NE state Tripura for further terror threats in state. The Karnataka Anti Terror Squad (ATS) on Friday arrested a suspect here having links with the 2005 terror attack at Bengaluru's Indian Institute of Science (IIS), police said. "The Karnataka ATS personnel, with the help of Tripura Police, arrested terror suspect Habib Mia, 37, from Jogendranagar on the outskirts of Agartala," a senior Tripura Police official told IANS on condition of anonymity. He said: "He was wanted in connection with the militant attack on IIS at Bengaluru in 2005. He would be presented in a local court here on Saturday to avail transit remand to take Mia to Bengaluru for further action."
