ONGC’s failure has turned Monarch | AGARTALA, Aug 16 (TIWN): Although ONGC claimed that they will start gas supply to Monarchak power plant from December but nothing can be said until ONGC gives any confirmation, said NEEPCO GM SR Biswas. Talking to TIWN correspondent, NEEPCO GM SR Biswas said that ONGC so far had not given any confirmation to NEEPCO regarding supplying gas to NEEPCO and until and unless NEEPCO gets gas supply it will not be possible to start power generation. He further said that ONGC earlier claimed that they will provide gas to NEE PCO from November and now they have changed it to December so there is no assurance when ONGC begins with gas supply. It is to be mentioned here that Monarchak 101MW power plant is lying dead since February and since then there was no power generation at the plant. However, ONGC is likely to supply gas to NEEPCO from its Sonamura gas collecting station by December. However, the 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant in Sipahijala district at Sonamura sub-division is unable to support power generation as ONGC is not supplying gas to the plant. | 16-Aug-2016 |

Uncertainty hovers over Dipa Karmakarâ | AGARTALA, Aug 13 (TIWN): Debutant Olympian Karmakar finished eighth in the qualifying round to reach the individual vault final in artistic gymnastics at the quadrennial multi-discipline games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Karmakar became the first Indian gymnast to enter the final on her debut at the quadrennial multi-discipline games when she finished eighth in the qualifying round but now question arises how far will be Dipa successful as Rio’s deadly environment might hit Dipa’s health and simultaneously her performance at the Rio. The first woman from the country to feature in the lineup of gymnasts at the Olympics, Karmakar succeeded in performing the difficult 'Produnova' routine to secure 14.850 points after two attempts, but had to undergo a nervous wait for hours to find out that she had made the final after all other groups of gymnasts had completed their routines. When she ended her routine, she was placed sixth in the vault apparatus, but eventually dropped to the eighth position as some high-scores later altered the standings. Making the top-eight cut in her favourite vault, Karmakar will return to the spotlight in the final that is slated for August 14. Terror attack again jolts Northeast Indi | GUWAHATI / AGARTALA, Aug 13 (TIWN): Amidst high alerts, two people were killed and six injured on Friday when militants opened fire in a village in Assam's Tinsukia district, police said. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), Assam Police chief Mukesh Sahay said. . Four to five gunmen entered Philobari village and opened indiscriminate fire on the unsuspecting villagers, he said. Philobari has a considerable Hindi-speaking population, migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, mostly working as daily wage labourers. "Our operations are on to catch the killers," Sahay said. The attack comes in the wake of that on August 5 at the weekly Balajan market near Kokrajhar town, in which over 14 people, belonging to different communities, were killed by the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).Security have been tighten more in Tripura and NE state after the twice attack in Assam. In the last attack, At least 14 civilians were killed on Friday when militants in military fatigues opened random fire at a busy market in Assam's Kokrajhar town. Police said one of the raiders was also killed.
