AGARTALA, Nov 7 (TIWN): CPI-M State Secretary, Opposition leader Jiten Chowdhury accused BJP leadership of nominating goons as AMC candidates – alleging the miscreants who were hired for “chappa” votes have been nominated by BJP as the candidates.

"Under nine years of BJP rule here, it’s so poisonous and toxic but now it’s going to be worse if such candidates win the polls,” Chowdhury said, talking about the upcoming municipality elections.

The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections in Tripura are scheduled to be held on November 27, 2026. Polling will take place from 7 AM to 4 PM, while the counting of votes is scheduled for December 2. Repolling, if required, will be conducted on November 30. The elections will cover 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, as part of the wider urban local body elections across Tripura.
