Tripura plans to establish 15 PHC in tribal areas

AGARTALA, July 25 (TIWN): The Tripura government will make a special provision for establishment of primary health centres in the tribal-dominated regions in the State, considered remote and geographically difficult to access.The government is planning to set up 15 Primary Health Centers (PHC). “Through the special budgetary provisions, the State Government is planning to strengthen the infrastructure for reaching out to the most underprivileged tribal people and resolve the issue of shortage of doctors and para-medical staff in hospitals,” said an health department official requesting anonymity. Each PHC will be ten bedded and Rs 120 crore will be required for establishing.

In Tripura there are 84 PHC, 992 health sub centres and 18 community health centre’s but tribals are  still deprived of healthcare facilities in state  most  tribal’s suffer from anaemia, malnourishment, do not get the benefits of institutional delivery and lack in proper care for other health related issues.

The outbreak of malaria in Tripura since last month has claimed more than 100 lives and affected over 30,000 people. Doctors and medical staffs were camping in the malaria prone areas, mostly in tribal inhabited areas.  Besides d the Border Security Force and Tripura State Rifles personnel were cooperating with the medical teams working in the remote areas and one helicopter was pressed into service for carrying health workers and patients. 

The stock of drugs was adequate, the statement said. Earlier, the central government had sent two malaria expert teams which visited the affected areas and distributed drugs. The team also collected blood samples of the patients for examination.
