UDAIPUR, July 15 (TIWN): Amidst massive violence and alleged breaching of model code of conduct by CPI(M) MLA Madhab Saha, three-tier Panchayat poll ended in Gomati District. A total number of 128299 voters were enrolled for 70 Gram Panchayats, 48 Panchayat Samitis and 13 Zila Parishads seats in Gomati District.

As per the latest updates 92-93% polling was recorded in the district. But in many places incidents of violences were recorded and surprisingly CPI(M) MLA Madhab Saha is alleged to have breached model code of conduct. Congress MLA cum Udaipur District Congress Committee President Pranajit Singha Roy alleged," As per State Election Commission's rules no MLA or MP is issued a car pass during the election. But CPI(M) MLA Madhab Saha was seen by locals to move around his constituency; this is really surprising."

Polling began at 7 in the morning but as the day progressed incidents of poll violence, booth jam and threatening of the opposition party voters by the ruling CPI(M) cadres started coming from various parts. The maximum numbers came from Matabari Blocks. MLA Pranajit Singha Roy alleged that in as many as five polling booths Congress Polling agents were forced to leave Polling booths under threats from CPI(M) cadres. These booths are Chhataria, Garjan Mura, Palatana Lulunga, Tepania Anganwadu and East Gokulpur School. Again he said that in the afternoon CPI(M) cadres also took control of the two booths of 19 no ward of Udaipur Municipal Council, where bi-election is held. However, he said that after taking the assistance from administration the situation improved a bit.

In various parts of Matabari Block BJP candidate of Panchayat Samiti Mintu Begam was physically assaulted inside the 154 no polling booth in front of police. She then took help of other voters, who rescued her from the fury CPI(M) cadres. But in the same booth (Chandrapur Girls' H S School) BJP agent Jahangir Hossen Bhuiya was seriously beaten by CPI(M) cadres when he protested to allow a CPI(M) cadre from casting a vote in favour of an aged woman, who could not have done this due to her poor eyesight. But the BJP agent protested as the woman came with her grandson and and demanded that only the grandson could be allowed to cast her vote. At this the CPI(M) cadres attacked on him and injured him. But the surprising element is the role of the police constable on duty Kausik Dey. Instead of protecting the BJP agent police constable Kausik attacked Jagangir with the back side of his gun cutting open Jahangir's cheek , profusely bleeding. Jahangir Hossen told TIWN ," CPI(M) cadres namely Rajan Bhuiya, Manik Pal, Subal Nath Bhowmik and Kashem Mia along with the CPI(M) police constable turned CPI(M) cadre assaulted me. The incident took place at 3.15pm. "

Again at 3.30pm BJP District Committee President Swapan Adhikari and a district committee member was going from Chandrapur Beltali to Tetui Bari when a group of 25-30 CPI(M) cadres stopped their cars in the middle and attacked them. Both the leaders were injured and had to be admitted in Tripura Sundari Hospital, Udaipur. In the evening Swapan Adhikari told TIWN," Today CPI(M) cadres took control over the situation. Even police administration was a silent spectator. " Local BJP workers alleged that CPI(M) 'Bike Bahini' rulled over entire Matabari area led by their MLA Madhab Saha. Meanwhile reacting to these allegations DM Gomati Sonal Goel, " No such incidents took place. Sector Officers and police personnels made enquiry but all these allegations are wrong. In Gomati District no untoward incident has happened. As per the voting turn out polling percentage should be around 92-94%. However, details will be cleared after the the submission of reports by the polling officials."
