Two more Arrested in Amit Acharjee murder case

AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): West Agartala PS Police arrested two more criminals on Wednesday involved in West District Court Deed Writer Amit Acharya murder case. The two detained persons are Digbijoy Modak and Shibdut Borua.

So far, a total of six people have been arrested in this murder case. Earlier on April 3, lawyer Rajesh Sarkar and Muhuri Rajeeb Deb were arrested by West PS Police.

On September 5, a Deed Writer named Amit Acharya was beaten up by several lawyers and clerks in the Agartala West District and Sessions Judge's Court. The injured Amit Acharya was sent to IGM Hospital in critical condition from the Court. Noticing his critical condition the doctors on duty referred him to GB Hospital. Amit's kidneys and lungs were severely injured, and the doctors at GBP Hospital referred Amit to Kolkata for better treatment but he died during the treatment on September 23. After the incident, the victim’s family filed a case No- 172/2023 at West Police Station under sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code., against the criminal lawyers Rajesh Sarkar, Gopal Singh, Anirban Talapatra and lawyers' clerks Shibdut Barua, Sudip Deb and Rajeev Deb.

It is reported that the incident occurred centering the GRPS case on September 5 and all the accused beat up Amit Acharya, his wife Sanchita Saha Acharya claims that the entire incident was caught on district court CCTV footage.

In this case, the police arrested the lawyer named Gopal Singh from Bordowali on November 12, 2023. Then another lawyer named Anirban Talapatra was arrested. The police were still searching for the remaining accused in the incident. It is also reported that a police team has reached Kolkata in search operation in this case of sensational murder. Two more accused were caught by the police on Wednesday. They have been on the run since the incident.

Meanwhile, when the accused were brought to court on Wednesday, the court sent them to police remand for three days.
