AGARTALA, Nov 20 (TIWN): United Forums of Communist party here, comprising TGTA, TTA, Tripura University Employees Committee, Tripura University Officer Committee, Tripura University Teachers Committee, Tripura College Teachers Association, DYFI, TYF, SFI, TSU, Tripura Science Forum, Tripura Education Dept. Officers Association got together at Agartala town hall to oppose the central education policy draft on Sunday. Delhi University professor Saswati Majumder was present on that occasion. Some illogical demands have been raised by 16 unions in Tripura, all of them are CPI-M baked who are to challenge the new Education policy adapted by the Govt of India in 2016. Alleging that the proposed 2016 Education policy will move the whole system towards privatization, the trade unions have repealed the policy and warns that a major kind of protest to be conducted by the unions.

Earlier, in a press meet held at CPI-M Melarmath Party office the National Education Security Forum (Jatiya Shiksha Surakhsha Mancha) which is comprised of 16 unions told media that considering Education as a very sensitive social agenda the forum has decided to oppose the Education policy. ‘Education is the fundamental right of people, which can not be compromised anyhow;and thus protesting against the step taken by the central govt the forum organized a convention at Agartala townhall on Sunday, where Delhi University Professor Saswati Majumder was the main orator.

However, interesting matter is that in the proposed Education policy, nowhere the Central govt said that it will hand over the education policy to privatization, but with various rules a necessary rule which to be introduced may hit the Education policy of Tripura Govt—that is teacher’s training.

As per Govt of India’s website’s theme 5 it has been said that “Re-vamping Teacher Education for Quality Teachers” is one of the main target of the central govt. It has been said that :

 1. There is an urgent need to have a fresh perspective of preparations of teachers to address evolving concerns of school curriculum, transactional pedagogies, ICT etc. for improving the overall quality of education.

2. For ensuring availability of adequate number of teachers, the second year of the programme can be used as intern in the schools where teacher shortage is acute and they may be provided a stipend for this purpose as is done for the medical trainees.

3. An assessment survey to be conducted on the critical issues like why the students are not interested in joining B.Ed. course in recent days; the status of professionalism among working teachers?

4. A separate accreditation board to be established at National level to assess and award ranking of the teacher training institutions to achieve quality teacher education.

Among the 12 policies, TIWN highlighting on 4 policies regarding teacher recruitment where Tripura till day has been miserably failed. Neither the school have sufficient number of teachers, no its half of the staffs are trained.

A big question mark is on the much claimed the highest literacy rate in Tripura after Education Minister TapanChakraborty accepted the fact that more than 50 % of the teachers in Tripura are untrained. But question which was never asked to the ruling govt of Tripura is--- Who is actually responsible for this present scenario.
