KAMALPUR, Oct 16 (TIWN): The 120th edition of Maharas Yatra Fair and Festival got all set to begin from 11th November next.

The four day long festivity would conclude on 14th November. During the four days’ festivity, the Bishnupriya Manipuri community from and outside the state would throng in to the trio mandap (three temple) complex at Baralutma.

The organizers started their preparation regarding the celebration of the program. Different departments and organizations also came forward like previous years to make this program successful.

It might be mentioned here that, every year the Maharas Yatra Fair and Festival got celebrated at Baralutma with pomp and gaiety. Bishnupriya Manipuri community from and outside the state gathered here for this celebration.

But the matter of least contribution from the part of the community and sole dependence on the governmental aid remained a matter of controversy regarding the celebration.

120 years earlier, the celebration was started locally as the people of this community could not avail the opportunity to enjoy the one day Ras Utsav at Sylhet in Bangladesh.

Hence, they started the three-day long celebration. Then the government came forward and the celebration became dependent on the governmental aid completely.

With the passing time the celebration got extended to four-day celebration. But, the younger generation probably started to lose interest in the celebration due to lack of their person al contributions and greater attachment.
