This situation has become daily routine for the drivers and the commuters of both the sides. Asking the workers on the spot, they said that with the rainy season, the NH-44 has turned pathetic as the mud filling work was going on at Assam-Agartala road. Generally muddy roads get risky with the arrival of rain, and at many spots across the construction site at NH-44 had developed with mud-filling & labeling works. The vehicle movements have become risky and the agonies of drivers, including passengers has no end.
It's worthy to mention here that National highway 44 is one such roads which gets worsened even for small rains. As it is the only highway which connects Tripura with the rest of the country, the transport completely blocked. Thousands of vehicles stranded on Assam’s Lowerpoah area as the Assam-Agartala national highway virtually turned into paddy field due to heavy monsoon since April.
Transport department officials said, thousands of trucks and others vehicles stacked at road, due to pathetic condition of road. Incessant rainfall over past few days has yet again left the NH-44 in a pitiable condition. Due to the rain, vehicle movement was nearly stopped with the continuous water logged various spots of the road.
On the one hand the authority says that the maintenance continues round the clock in the year, question arises if maintenance is carried out in the entire year why splash of rain disrupts the traffic movement in the NH-44.
Despite of so much of problems faced by the travels, the responsible authorities could not manage their valuable time to look over the matter of the National Highways.
