AGARTALA, Feb 13 (TIWN): Even after several doldrums faced by the truck drivers and passengers, the so-called responsible authority could not manage their valuable time to take a notice of the miserable condition of the Assam-Agartala National Highway. The leaders and ministers have surveyed the road a number of times, but they don’t pay much attention towards the issue. The 10 km long road has turned hazardous at present. Owing to the dilapidated condition, the government of Assam and Tripura opened the alternative National Highway of the state which has completely turned into a dead zone. Lack of repairing of the NH44 road especially from Churaibari to Lowerpoa has left the road in poor condition. The particular road has not undergone any permanent renovation till now and the initial repairing of the road has left the road in critical condition. If the road is not repaired in the dry season the road will be left totally paralysed in the coming days, as a result the vehicles have to travel through such terrible route. Alleged negligence of Assam government has paralysed the National Highway 44 from Lowerpoa of Assam’s Karimganj district up to Churaibari Assam gate is laying in a terrible state.
The reason behind such dilapidated condition of the road is due to the negligence of the central government and Assam government. Although the responsibility of the repairing work is given to an organisation by the Assam government but the work is progressing in slow pace triggering resentment among the people.
Worst is the condition of road from Kathaltali upto Assam gate Churaibari and from Lowerpoa upto Assam gate Churaibari. It may halt communication between Assam and Tripura anytime.
The condition of these stretches of the highways has become so bad that in some patches these have turned into virtual craters. In fact, the deplorable condition of these national highways has led to resentment amongst local people, with the demand for their maintenance growing and intensifying.
The condition of the NH44 has changed from bad to worse due to the lack of maintenance of the road.
However, the potholes on this highway are deep. Road users find it difficult to pass the distance and the journey time has become almost double because of the poor condition of this busy highway, resulting in wastage of fuel at a time when fuel saving assumes importance. Car and two-wheeler users are the most affected. The bad condition of the roads results in many minor accidents and heavy traffic jam in several places.
