Committees demand to regularize the minority languages

AGARTALA, August 3 (TIWN): Demanding to regularize the minority languages in Tripura, several committees of the minority language on Monday staged mass demonstration and placed a deputation to Directorate of Kokborok and other Minority language.

The committees demanded to immediately regularise the Manipuri, Bishnupriya Manipuri, Chakma along with other minority language.

They also demanded to assign particular period for the minority languages in the school and to make the related language as the first language.

Demanding to focus on the minority languages, they have asked to include the languages in the Progress report card so that the students also give importance to the languages.

The committee includes Tripura Manipuri Development Committee, Tripura Manipuri students youth existing committee, Bishnupriya Manipuri Development Samiti, Tripura, Chakma National Council of India and Tripura Chakma Student Association.

Kok-Borok which is a dialect of Tibeto-Burman group, mother tongue of millions of Borok (Tripuri) population inhabiting in Tripura, Mizoram and Assam States of India, and in Chittagong Hill Tracts and other districts of Bangladesh.

In this era of globalisation, the very survival and development of a minority language like Kok-Borok is very difficult, unless it is patronised by the National Government by the frame of law, budgetary support and various activities, said the members of the committee.
