AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): On its ambitious plan to make the farmers of the state self reliant in food grain production, recently Agricultural Department has taken the initiatives to provide practical knowledge to the farmers of the Sonamura Sub-Division under SRI (System of Rice Intensification) method of cultivation of food grain.
Around 100 farmers of the area had received the knowledge through a day long agricultural workshop, organized at the Melaghar Town Hall under Sonamura Sub-Division.
During the workshop the experts suggested the farmers to focus on six rules of SRI method to cultivate the hybrid seeds and to confer better production of food grains in the state. The practical classes were delivered by Joint Director of Agricultural Department Phani Bhushan Jamatia, Deputy Director Dipak Das and other experts.
Addressing the workshop, Agricultural Caretaker of Sonamura Sub-Division Monojit Bhattacharjee informed that this year in that concern Sub-Division, around 480 hectors and 3, 224 hectors of land were brought under the SRI method cultivation.
Besides, he also informed that the farmers who will be producing food grains with hybrid seeds in their land under SRI method, the Agricultural Department will deploy Rs. 3, 918 and the farmer who will be cultivating other species will get Rs. 7, 500.
The initiative has been taken for the farmers to embrace modern and scientific methods in farming and work collectively towards achieving the target of producing enough pulses for the state and to become self reliant.
