AGARTALA, February 18 (TIWN): Drug smuggling has increased along the India-Bangladesh border while the vigil along the frontiers has been tightened to curb it here in the bordering areas of the state Tripura. Minister in-charge of the Home (Police) Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that during the last three financial year the Border Security Forces (BSF)s have seized the smuggling items worth Rs. 1, 55, 70, 357.Replying to the starred question moved by the opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath today during the assembly session Minister-in-charge of the state Home Department Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated that during the financial year 2011-12 the border security forces of the bordering areas of the state had seized the smuggling items worth Rs. 63, 79, 050, while during the financial year of 2012-13 Rs. 15, 60, 649 smuggling items has been sized, and during the financial year 2013-14 smuggling items worth Rs. 76, 30, 658 has been seized.However it is mentionable here that according to the BSF official, Since 2012, over 1,017,255 cannabis plants valued at Rs.255 crore have been destroyed along the border with Bangladesh.
