AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Reaction on the media queries about Bru settlement, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb on Saturday has signaled a strict warning against tension provokers, who are trying to create panic centering the Bru settlement in state Tripura, which was decided by Central and State Govt jointly to settle the Brus in Tripura who are originally from neighboring state Mizoram. Reacting over the ongoing tension centering, land acquisition for the Brus, CM said, “Where the Brus will be settled down, let the Govt think over it. What ever deal was done, it is known to all and Govt will exactly work in that direction”, CM told media.

“Basically, the Reang settlement was an issue from 1998 and it hanged on for a long period of time. Govts and people together came to the decision that Reang refugees should get a permanent solution. Then Tripura Govt sent a proposal to the Home Dept and then what was decided it is known to all”, Biplab Deb added.’ When Govt is identifying lands for the Reangs, here in Tripura, tensions between various local sections and Govt continues.

After a group’s protest against Reang community’s settlement in Tripura’s Kanchanpur, today another protest staged by the Jumpui Hill's people, who said, Jumpui Hill is their land and they will not leave an inch of it.

While agitating, the protesters said that let the Brus settled down anywhere in Tripura but not in Jampui area. The protest erupted after SDM Chandi Chandran, SDPO Bikramjit Sukla Das visited the area allegedly for land-acquisition purpose. The agitators told the officials that till they are alive, they will not leave an inch land of their soil. They further warned to go in indefinite road blockade if their demands are not fulfilled. “Brus...! You are welcome to Tripura, God bless you but no settlement in Jampui”, the agitators said.

Recently, another group from local community in another area of Kanchanpur staged a similar protest. They also had same demand, “No settlement of Brus” there.

The Brus are actually from Mizoram state, living in Tripura for 2 decades, but recently in an agreement, they were allowed to stay in Tripura permanently as they were living in this state for 22 years long after a violence in Mizoram.
