Agartala, Nov 11 (TIWN): In order to make awareness about the importance of packaging and also to promote the export market, by way of innovative package design and development, standardization, the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) of Kolkata would conduct a one-day training programme on ‘Packaging of Fresh and Processed Food Products’ for the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs of Tripura at Pragna Bhavan on November 13.

The main objective of the workshop is to disseminate information over the trends and technology in the packaging of processed foods, said Bidhan Das; deputy director and regional head of IIP Kolkata centre Tuesday informed it in a press conference at Agartala Press Club.

According to Das, IIP is an autonomous body in the field of packaging and working under the administrative control of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The institute is involved in many activities like testing and quality certification, training, education, formulation of packaging specification and cost reduction, he said.

Though, packaging used to be neglected for quite some time in the recent days, its importance is realized and today it is recognized by the product manufacturer, traders, retailers and end users as a vital component of product, added Das.

Better packaging results in protection and safe transportation of products; reduce loss and damage, wastage of products and produce. It enhances product value and also helps to expand markets within and outside the country. Appropriate packaging also contributes to environmental protection and the ecological balance, said Das.

Industries, Commerce and Education Minister of Tripura- Tapan Chakraborty, Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce Department- Lok Ranjan and other dignitaries would grace the programme.
