AGARTALA, Oct 26 (TIWN): JUMLA icon Narendra Modi has been labeled with "Chor" (thief) by Congress party along with "Bhagidar" (partner) of all scams including scams of Anil Ambani. As a part of nationwide protest, Congress staged agitation, gheraoed the CBI office protesting against illegal removal of Alok Verma with fear of CBI. Assam Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Borah said, "This is the first Govt under which Supreme Court judges had to go for press conference against the ongoing in Supreme Court". "Before Election Modi said, "Na-khayenge-na-khane-denge" (Will not do corruption, neither will allow to do corruption), but now Modi Govt has turned the biggest ever corrupt political group in India, Borah told media. Congress leader Gopal Roy said, “From Rafale deal to Ayushman Bharat, Nirav Modi to Lalit modi behind each scam Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Bhagidar. In a surprise midnight move, the Modi government divested Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Alok Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana of their powers, just hours after Verma directed his No. 2 to go on leave”. Congress State President Birjit Sinha said, "Today outside CBI offices nationwide, the Congress party in Tripura is protesting the Prime Minister's (Narendra Modi) disgraceful attempt to prevent an investigation into the Rafale scam by removing the CBI Chief".

The Congress leader further sharpened his attack on PM Modi, saying Verma was "removed in panic" because he was going to begin a probe into the controversial Rafale deal that would have been "suicidal" for PM Modi. The BJP has said that the Congress chief was spreading falsehood over the issue. In Tripura the protest was led by Assam Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Borah, Congress president of Tripura Birjit Sinha, Congress leader Gopal Roy.

However, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday refused to comment on the Supreme Court order on an inquiry into the allegations against CBI Director Alok Verma by the CVC, saying it was a "process being carried out".

"It's a Supreme Court judgement, a process that is being carried out. I don't want to comment on it," Gandhi told reporters outside the Lodhi Road police station where he was briefly detained for leading a protest outside the CBI headquarters.
"But I will say that the Prime Minister acted against the Director of the CBI as a result of panic, as a result of fear, because he has helped Mr Anil Ambani with Rs 30,000 crore," he said.

The Supreme Court earlier in the day appointed one of its former judges, Justice A.K. Patnaik, to supervise the inquiry into the allegations against Verma while giving two weeks time to the CVC to complete the probe.
