Massive Post Poll violence in Tripura : | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, May 24 (TIWN): Massive post poll violence has hit Tripura on Thursday and whole night violence took place all across the state. Footage of violence, property losses going viral, generated massive panic and resentment among the people. The beginning of violence started from the counting zones where in front of police and security force at Umakanta Academy, CPI-M Counting agent was beaten by around 30 to 40 BJP men. Congress State President Pradyot Manikya said, “I never saw such level of violence in Tripura.........it was only seen at West Bengal earlierâ€. In a letter to the Chief Electoral Officers ECI Under Secretary Madhusudhan Gupta has written, “In continuation of the existing instructions regarding counting of VVPAT slips I am directed to state that during past and ongoing General Elections to Lok Sabha and simultaneous elections to State Legislative Assemblies of Andra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim, 2019 there have been some instances of human errors in properly deleting the mock poll data from Control Units and Removal of mock poll slips from the VVPAT at some polling stations. In some cases, Presiding Officers either failed to delete the data from the Control Unit or failed to remove the VVPAT paper slips pertaining to mock poll from the drop box of the VVPAT. The Supreme Court on May 21 dismissed a writ petition seeking 100% random physical counting of EVM-VVPAT in the Lok Sabha polls of 2019, saying there is hardly two days left before counting and the country should be allowed to choose its government. Dubbing the PIL filed by a collective of technocrats called 'Tech4All' a "nuisance", the Vacation Bench of Justices Arun Mishra and M.R. Shah junked the PIL in a brief hearing. The Bench pointed out that all the seven phases of polling are over and the country is looking forward to form a new government on May 23.
